Genesis Beach

Genesis Beach (ISBN 0-595-41786-8) showcases Logan Hunter, an investigative intern assigned to the small beach town's police department. After three boring weeks on the job, a wealthy man is found dead in his hot tub. The police chief, not experienced in murder, passes the case to Logan, who zeroes in on a suspect only to have him slip away. Logan deals with many obstacles, including a hurricane that destroys her house and car. At the same time her night terrors have become unbearable. As she puts the pieces of the case together, she discovers that her past is enterwined with the murder victim.

sounds like Logan has a case related PTSD syndrome, not a bad idea, it will give you tools to expand the character and make her a little more human. Morgan (Doc)

Susan, what is an 'investigative intern?' Is she a reporter, a police detective?

This one sounds like it will be right up my alley. I always enjoy a good mystery/suspense story.

I posted an excerpt of Genesis Beach on my Eons blog since I had an emergency at the time I was supposed to get it up and running. You can also find Chapter 1 of Just North of Luck on the blog. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Logan does have a sleep disorder brought on by childhood trauma. It rears its ugly head when she is stressed out, as she often is as a brand new intern for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation. In Just North of Luck, she is a full-fledged SBI agent, assigned to the mountains to catch a serial killer.

I got serious about writing for publication in 2001 but I as still a high school principal and had little time to write. Genesis Beach was a slow process and wasn't published until 2007. Just North of Luck soon followed since I was retired by then.

Both books can be found at my Web site www.susanwhitfieldonline.com, at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or simply ask your local bookstore to order for you if they don't have them in stock.

Great questions! Thanks for the interest. I don't know what's going on with the time posts, but I'm sure it wasn't months ago.(lol) At least we're connecting now.

Female detectives and police officers seem to have been having good response from readers, and from what I've read on all 3 of your posts regarding your books, I think your Logan Hunter books will be well received by the general public. In my opinion she is quite a character.

Thanks so much. Genesis Beach was well received and Just North of Luck seems to be doing quite well although it's a little rougher than Genesis Beach. Some people love that and others don't. I just have to write what comes down through my fingertips and hope for the best. In Hell Swamp, the third one, the scenery may be scarier than the people!
