Twilight series

Has any one read the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer? If not, I highly recommend it. My 15 year old granddaughter asked me to read it so we could discuss it. Being flattered that she would ask me to read a favorite book of hers and thinking that it was a teen book, I said "Sure" and bought the first one. Yes, it is about teenagers (sort of) but also a totally new view of vampires. I didn't want to put the first one down and feel the same way about the second and have all ready reserved the 4th one which comes out August 1. (I'm buying the 3rd one Friday). Meyer is also writing a series for adults and first one is titled The Host. Can't wait to get hold of that one either. Let me know what you think.

I find the girl protagonist an empty shell that seems to exist merely to showcase the vampire she loves. She is uninteresting, and a very cliched teenage girl lusting from afar. Even after they "connect" her characterization doesn't improve. The vampire characters are much more "alive" than the mortals. This writing degraded my enjoyment, and I stopped with the first book.
