A Steady Rain and a Tin Roof

Let your memories go wild and then share them with us.

I'm off to take a daughter to work, so I'll share when I get back.

I still love the sound of rain on a tin roof. Sometimes I sit in my husband's workshop, just inside the door, on a camp stool and just listen to the rain and watch the wonder of it all. Another thing is the smell, ozone, whatever you want to call it. There is nothing better. No perfume ever invented could ever come close to the freshness of that smell.

I love storms! But the sound of rain on a tin roof is a very peaceful sound to me. My grandpapa had a tin roof, loved being at his house & sitting with him in that overstuffed chair just listening. Oh! What heaven that was!!

tonight, Wed and Thurs nights I will be under a tin (ok, aluminum) roof...laptop radar doesn't show any rain so maybe just sound of deer, raccoons, squirrels and bear to sleep to

Rain on the roof works for me especially if it is a canvas roof and all the flaps are secured. Even the thunder feels better there, as long as it is not to close.--W

Tin roof and the deep South and rain. Steam, if you go upstairs - stifling heat. There is a cool breeze though on the front porch - if we all crowd together it should keep us covered and we can watch the rain drip from the roof to the ground and stay dry.

The sound of hundreds and thousands of tiny raindrops dancing on an old tin roof, stirs memories of peace and contentment, excitement and suspense in this mind of mine.

When I was very young, we lived with Mama. Her house had a tin roof.

During the rain, often we would sit on the front porch and watch the effect of the rain on the leaves of the grand old oak out front or we’d sit and play games on the porch’s floor and just enjoy the freshness the cleansing rain was bringing. All the while the steady sound of the gentle, soft rain drip dropping on the roof was soothing.

At other times, the wind was blowing a bit too much to sit on the porch and enjoy the rain, we’d go inside the house and continue about our business being serenaded by the rhythm of the rain. It was as though the rain wanted us to get excited and dance along , as the droplet danced and made music on the roof. Of course, if it was nighttime, I didn’t want to sleep if the rain was excited, I wanted to stay awake and keep tabs on the rain. But, as the rain calmed down to a waltz on the roof, my eyelids became heavy and sleep beckoned me. The gentle lullaby the raindrops created on that old tin roof sent me directly to dream land.

Other times, if the rain was fierce and there was threat of power outages, the rain behaved as a suspense filled story teller, which had us sitting quietly in corners, candles in hand, waiting to find out if it would cause us to be without power or not. Sometimes the rain and wind worked together and took out the power, but more often than not, the rain just did its dance on the roof and thrilled our ears with wild musical rhythms for awhile, until it was tired and decided to go away until another day.

I dearly miss the sound of the rain on that old tin roof. If I could go back in time, I would. But, I can’t. So I’ll just stay here with you and continue to dream of days gone by and the dance of the rain on that old tin roof.
