Do Women Barbeque?

I am new to the group and have had some nice communications from a couple of members already so I'm feeling brave enough to join in.
On Saturday there was a Food Network show about women who are into competition barbecuing and since Texas is all about is "que", I thought it might make a good topic of discussion here.
For myself the gas barbecue intimidates me but I am willing to use charcoal. What about you?

I use the gas grill 3-4 times week. Keeps from heating up the house. On weekends I like to cook on the grill a bunch of stuff to eat on all during the week

I love the grill, but I have a confession to make that will not make the feminists happy. Grilling (or any kind of outdoor cooking) is the one job I've always let the men in my life do. Since I'm a kitchen control freak, it's nice to turn that job over whenever possible. I absolutely love reaping the benefits of someone else doing the grilling though, while I make a salad and do the sides. (My hubby does a steak that rivals Taste of Texas or any other steakhouse steak I've ever experienced.)

I can and I have. However it just seemed it always gave them ( the men in the family)such a felling of accomplished an pride at the finished product. Why take that away from them - - when I had to cook for all the other meals. Let them enjoy, and give me a break.

DUH I do not have a grill presently and would like to learn how to charcoal grill so who is inviting me for dinner to teach me? HA That and filling up my gas tank were jobs I never did when hitched, so it is another hurdle I must make myself get through for independence.

I am single, but have a huge gas grill on my patio. I use it all week long. LOL, I use it all year long. I grill everything from salmon to steak. I love grilled veges, and corn. It creates less mess and heat in the kitchen :)

I love to grill! My ex never wanted to so it feel to me and after he left, I continued grilling. Love to use charcoal, my parents had a gas and I personally didn't care for it. Now as far as charcoal, I have this ring that I put in the pit, stack charcoal on it, plug it in and leave it for 10 or so minutes. The fire is going great. It is so easy. All you have to be careful of is that the ring is hot and you can burn yourself. But charcoal imparts such a wonderful flavor and essence, that it is hard to beat. Grilled veggies, fruit and meat, yum!

If you are using charcoal add a small amount of green wood. Like pull off small twiggs from oak, pecan, or hickory tree in your yard and this will add smoke and flavor to meat.

I grill all year all the time. We have a gas grill and a smoker.
I'd love to get my husband to do, at least, some of the grilling. Once I suggested that he make dinner(hot dogs and a can of beans). He just laughed.

I love to use a gas grill (less mess to clean up and a lot cheaper than charcoal). The secret is to throw some water soaked wood chips on the grill to add the smoky taste to whatever you are cooking. I have a burner on the side to heat up side dishes or sauces and it sure beats heating up the kitchen in the summer.
I also like to smoke meats but for that I do use a carcoal smoker. I can put a brisket and a turkey in at night and it's done the nest morning. Yummy!!!

Wow this is a wonderful discussion. I don't think that gas gives food the taste of charcoal. I am avoiding buying a gas grill. Pam you make it sound easy. Where do I buy that contraption and what is it called. I wanna start grilling......
