Soon I'll be packin' heat!

That's right...I'm taking a gun class next weekend. I often have to travel down to Southern Ohio when my 88 year old mother needs attention, or is in trouble at the retirement home, which she often seems to be. Sometimes I'm driving down there in the middle of the night and it would be nice to feel protected, even if I'm not.

The class is about gun safety, the legality of using firearms, and six hours of practice at the range. What's your opinion about women having handguns for protection?

While I see the fun in target practice, most all the women I know would either forget they had it at the crucial moment or they would not dare use it. If they drew it they would probably get killed. I prefer to rely on 911.

Always better to have it and not need it rather than to need it and not have it.

Good for you. I live alone in the country and I couldn't imagine being without my guns. I grew up around them and my father taugh me to shoot when I was a young girl. I would have no problem using mine if I had to. I've had a concealed weapons permit since I was in my mid 20's. By the time I got a 911 response out here...well I could forget it.

Well, I have several rifles around here including a really nice Winchester lever action .22 that I bought at a gas station in Montana (no joke). At the gun show yesterday I sold a shotgun and a couple of handguns and got a new Taurus titanium 38, and a fun Ruger stainless steel .22 revolver for plinking around the 'ranch'.

Living outside the city limits is nice because it's legal to shoot a gun. I got some good advice from the sheriff's department about how to setup a safe shooting range so I'll be doing that soon. From where we will stand to shoot at the barricade, it's over a half mile to the nearest house, with lots of hills and trees in the way.

You can shoot guns alllllll day long out here, but if you shoot off firecrackers, you'll get a fine. LOL

You need a gun to control your mother?

I have an idea! Why don't you use your drug dealer neigbor's house as a backstop and only buy +P ammo!

I've had my license for about 6 years. I'm comfortable carrying my gun and I'm a very good shot. I've never forgotten that I am carrying it, and wouldn't hesitate to use it if I felt my life was in jeopardy. It might not be something everyone is comfortable with, but I am. I would suggest that the class to get the license not be all that you do. Going to a range for practice on a regular basis is a good idea, and always practice with the gun you carry.

I'm for you. For armed is for warned. Guns rule fools drool. Criminals are very bold in this society today. And say it in your mind over and over, "I will shot if I have to; to preserve my own life and for my safety." You are doing the right thing, keep your head high.

We don't have any drug dealers in my little area of the township, as far as I know. I did here there were a few hooked on the crack-corn, but that's just a rumor.
