Message 191 of 434

Faith

While God's name is not mentioned in the book of Esther, we see that both Mordecai and Esther had great faith in Him.

Mordecai tells Esther in chapter four that even if she does not do as he has asked, God will find another way to deliver the Jews. See verse fourteen.

Esther asks that Mordecai gather all the Jews to fast. We need not doubt that prayer accompanied the fasting.

Esther not only had faith, she had the wisdom to ask for and take advice from her uncle.

Many times we ask for prayer and even advice and yet make our own decisions or continue to fret and fear and worry. We tell anyone who will listen our problems, wring our hands and worry. We don't want advice we want an audience. Often, when we pray we seek relief not instruction. God wiil take our burdens, but He expects us to grow in wisdom and faith, to do our part. Many times our trials are a result of our own poor choices or sin. Yet we want relief. Get us out of this mess, until the next mess. Faith is so much more than uttered prayer.

Can you recall a time when you were clearly shown what to do and had the courage to act in faith, to obey?

If we really give God the burden and stop obsessing, we can think more clearly. God wants our heart and our mind.

You are so right about wanting an audience...a place to vent our frustration and a person to say 'yes, you sure are right to be upset'.

Several months ago when I was dealing with a difficult problem because I didn't know how to respond to a situation, I went to my SIL and laid it all out to her. She was someone who I knew cared about me and the other person. She is a Godly woman with wisdom. When I was all done with it, out of my mouth came "You can't help me if you don't tell me the truth." Don't know where that came from, but it has stuck with me and has become a foundational attitude when I go to others or they come to me.

Whoa! I went back and read that verse again!

Est 4:14 "For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?"

That's pretty jolting. God plan will succeed; it's just a matter of whether or not we choose to participate and receive the blessing of obedience. And disobedience brings disaster. And the verse draws in God's sovereign choice of each individual being where they are for His purposes.

As another verse says..."These things are too wonderful (awesome, awe-inspiring, beyond comprehension) for me."

Awesome to go back and read that again, and to read your testimony!
Pretty much point blank, huh?
