Snoring Tzu

Someoe mentioned somewhere here recently that their Tzu snores....got me to thinking.
My girl snores but my boy does not. She's got the classic smush faced nose that typifies her breed. Fluffy Lee, however, has a bit longer nose and may have some Lhasa in him somewhere, as he has the more almond shaped eyes of the Lhasa Apso. I'm wondering if most true to breed Shih Tzu do snore???? Anyone wanna weigh in on this, just for fun?

The Braecheacephalic face makes Shih-tzus prone to snoring and breathing problems. Thats why groomers have to be very drying them.

Both kinds of faces are true to breed. At one tome in the distant past the Shih-tzu and Lhasa were acosidered the same breed, just as the Springer Spaniel and Cocker were.In that case it was their size.

I am going to research because I read this somewhere. At any rate, they are both super adorable.

Well, my girl doesn't so much snore, but she does snort!! And sometimes it scares the heck out of us!! Sounds like she can't get her breath. She breathes hard in and out through her nose and snorts. I have heard of the tzu doing this.

jacci, I think that is called "reverse sneezing" that you've described, and yes, it is very common with the Shih Tzu breed!
My Pookie just hogs my bed at night, and ends up sleeping right near my ear, and snores to beat the band. What a girl! Somehow, however, I'd not have it any other way!

Jacci, Miss Charlotte does the same thing. The first time she did that it scared the heck out of me. I'm a little used to it now - she doesn't do it too often. Charlotte doesn't snore but every once in a while and it's not very loud. In fact, she snored just a little last night. I think it's kinda cute.

It scared the heck out of me too! I've read online that you can help them by putting your finger over their nose so that they have to breathe through their mouths. But I tried it twice and it didn't seem to help much. I just hold her, pet her and try to calm her down. Thankfully it doesn't happen very often!

My Bichon has started snoring in his old age too. I find it amusing. The older he gets the more like a little old man he reminds me of. :)
