Slugs!!!

I've been wondering what the problem was/is with my carnation of Inda. The leaves are all curled inward and stunted. Poor, poor baby.
Today I found out for sure, it's those dagblasted slugs! My oldest daughter is now earning $10 per week to get rid of those things daily until the infestation is gone. We(she) has several methods to try out (that I searched google to find), to rid us of the hated slugs.

Have any of you ever had to deal with a slug problem before?

we have gardens, we have slugs.

i tried the beer thing, and got some, but what worked the best was "diamatacous earth" i splinkled it right on the plants. its rips them up from inside and outside.

but you do have to reapply evertime it rains.

Send her out at night with a salt shaker.Sprinkle salt on them and they turn to goo.

uncle b, be careful with the salt. too much and the plants will wither and die fromt he salt content,.

i found that out when i lived at the shore, i used seaweed for the garden, and ended up killing it. i had to rinse it several times before i could use it.

de does nothing nasty to the soil. sept maybe kill some grubs

and im not the violent one, the diatomes are. cute little buggers

I use commercial Slug Bait on the ground around the affected plants. Joyce

I used Ortho Slug control on my hostas and I don't have slugs at all. Always be careful with pets but I the grains way under the plant and you don't see them. I haven't seen a slug in years.

Hugs,
Annie

sorry i forgot to mention, i never use any poisons. they accumulate in the soil, run out to the rivers and poison us all. more and more we have these bacteria scares, because the bugs are getting better then the poisons. eventually, ortho and the others will manage to create a super bug, just like the pharmaceutical companies. (mersa).

give me the slugs anyday, to that. (i have kids)

I have been battling the slugs non stop all season- the rain has just been too much- it's nice and wet and weedy, just what the stinkin things love! Even my chickens are sick of slugs!
Coffee Grounds around the plants that's the best I can do- and pick the bloody things off by hand!

Slug bait is so highly toxic, I know someone who lost a beautiful 3 year old collie who ate some and died.

You don't know what else you might be killing when you put down poison.

Use copper flashing in a band around plants that you want to protect. The body chemistry of the slug does not play well with copper and the effect is something like electrocution, so they avoid copper at all costs. Copper looks nice in the garden, both when it is new and shiny and when it gets old and green with patina.

I found a new method to get rid of slugs. I am going to try it tonight.
Bugged by Slugs? - Save orange halves from juice squeezing, place in affected areas - remove slugs each morning from underneath.
Anyone tried this method? I will let you know if it works.
