Hellboy II
Thought I'd stop in and give my take on the new Hellboy movie. For those who enjoyed the first film, most of the characters are back and, thanks to the mind of Guillermo Del Toro [who brought us the fantastic Pan's Labyrinth] there are plenty more where they came from. The character of Liz, who controls fire, is definitely amped up and the humor is also given its fair amount of play as well. I thought it was fun and exciting.
I will, however, add this note. It seems that a few movies this summer [I'll just point out this one and Wall-E] have the underlying theme of "Humans are horrible and destroying everything". Not the most uplifting of underlying themes, but definitely more prevalent in today's films, especially sci-fi and fantasy.
But, as was just pointed out to me, this has been a running theme for many sci-fi movies for quite awhile. Does anyone think people "get" it? Or are we just in and out of the movies for the sheer fun of it and disregarding any message these types of movies are trying to get across?
Just askin'.
