Dumb Question

Ok...Last night I watched a movie called Deep Impact about a giant asteroid that was about to hit Earth with an E.L.E effect. (Extinction Level Effect). In that movie they referred to an asteroid that hit the Earth before that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.
I lay in bed last night thinking about that...not having done any research i wondered...if that really is what scientists believe happened to the dinosaurs...that a giant asteroid with an ELE affect killed them...then why did not the rest of life die along with them? Every man, woman, child, plant life, ect would have died too right?
So how do they think that it happened without the entire planet dying off?
Just wanted opinions on what you all think really happened to cause the extinction of the dinosaurs.

That's an interesting question... I too would like to know... what's the best thinking on that these days, folks?

When the dinosaurs died off, there weren't any men, women, or children. The larger of the animal and plant life did die off, but the smaller animals, reptiles were able to live and evolve because most were burrowing animals (they could survive the nuclear winter)and needed less food to continue.

the impact area was in Mexico and yes they do believe that is what killed the dinosaurs. the resulting extended winter that covered the earth would have been especially hard on large animals that required large amounts of food. not so bad for small creatures especially those that burrow. basically with the big guys out of the way the little ones had a better chance, including our forbearer's.

The asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs did not kill all life on earth. Only the big lizards where affected because of there massive dependency on plant life. The herbivores ate the plants and the carnivores ate the plant eaters. Although most of the plant life was destroyed, enough existed for smaller animals to survive.

An example would be the great dust bowl of the 1930's. The land could not support humans but smaller animals continued to thrive in those areas.

The asteroid is also attributed with bringing the seeds of life to earth.

That impact was about 65 million years ago. Because mostly small mammals survived, it changed the course of evolution, according to the experts.

I have read disputed reports of such an asteroid in Mexico but here is one from Denmark as reported by New Scientists----"About 65 million years ago, at the end of the Cretaceous Period, a wayward Apollo-type asteroid ploughed into our planet and was responsible for wiping out the dinosaurs and many other forms of life on Earth. This hypothesis is proposed by Luis W. Alvarez and his colleagues from the University of California, Berkeley, in a paper delivered to this year’s meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Francisco. The theory is supported by the discovery of large concentrations of iridium in rocks from the Gubbio Valley in Italy and near Copenhagen in Denmark."

Ok..nowhere in the bible have i read that God created the earth and all the animals and plant life and man and woman and all the while saying "this is good" and in-between creating animals , then man and woman (if one goes with the theory that when dinosaurs lived there were no man, woman or child) that he said somewhere OOPS i dont like the dinosaurs so i will send an asteroid to kill them off before i continue. Why would that have happened?
I have heard a theory that it was the great flood that covered the earth that may have killed them all too. That would make more sense to me.

If an asteroid large enough to kill all dinosaurs and the majority of plant life and other living things occurred that far back wouldn't it have been recorded in the bible?

Of course one has to believe in the bible to accept any of what is written as truth.

But how can scientists prove without a doubt that such an asteroid did or could have killed everything? Isnt it really only a guess? They werent there 65 million years ago....this is the part of science i just cant quite believe or have any faith in. I mean even tests can be wrong and isnt is all just theory?

OK LadyJane just you wait till Wot reads this.
Dinasaurs living at the same time as man.....its a wonder he has not been here already to set you right on that one. Where's Wot????

I can not buy the theory of the astaroid killing all the big dinasaurs either. I can see how it would effect them to an extent Maybe if the kill off was gradual? Supposing that the vegetation was really damaged and as Charles said, smaller animals would have survived. Maybe they did too for quite some time. Maybe then another came and that did them in.
I think maybe when God went through the creation process. He made the sea creatures and then the birds and then the land animals. Well I can see how those first creations could have lived well before Eden and were therefore gone by then. The huge bodies sure would have been great fertilizer. The process of creation took quite some time, I believe that time has no value to God and so what to us seems like a million years, to him its a blink of the eye.
So animals came and went and eventually the more furry and domestic types were made. I do not think God would have seen a dino as a companion for Adam haha......so by then they had to have been long gone. We also know some were carnivores and so not ALL of creation was herbivore if you go along with that story and yet Genesis says that they were.
I dont see a contradiction so much as us not understanding and thats what makes it fascinating.
So Either Dinasaurs were there when man roamed the earth (mammoths were I saw it in the movie 10,000 haha) and we just have not found the fossil record yet or we need more information.
I think the meteors came right in the beginning, in the creation process.
Maybe they just died a natural death? became extinct as other animals have even in our lifetime.
Who knows.....no one does.

No Lady because science does not base it's theories on faith. Science does research based on evidence found in the earth seas and air. Let me ask you a question Ladyjane. Do you believe that the sun revolves around the Earth?
Do you believe that the sun is a big old flashlight? There is no mention of the sun or the stars or planets or even the moon in Genesis but we know them to be there.
Believing the bible is one thing. Believing that nothing else exist outside of it is troubling.
