In PA we can get a 3 year shot. The tag is good for the duration. The only drawback is the tag will not prove valid rabies beyond the year it was given. For facilities that require proof of vacs, you must present the rabies certificate.

In Nebraska, we have the three-year shot. The dogs wear their rabies tags for three years just like in Pa.

yes my dogs wear them for the duration of shots.my understanding here in Oregon is that the initial shot is a one year then you can get 1-2 or 3 year Rabies vacinations after that.we can't get the dogs licences unless we show prove of the rabies shots.
the other day i stopped at the animal shelter from our county to pick up a adoptable kitten thru the Humane society and to get Siletz Belles and Kody Bears licence, i had Belles papers showing her shot was good untill november this year and that she was spayed,but i forgot Kody's shot record,they called the vet and the vet faxed the info so that saved me from running all over creation to take care of Kody.
I never use to bother with these rabies shots untill about 6-7 years ago when my Border Collie bit a neighbor.then figured with all my critters i better keep up on that since i live in the country where Racoons and other rodents are real common visitors.
I was wondering this same thing. My dogs got a 3 year vaccination last year. July is their vaccination month. I am going to the vet's office tomorrow to pick up some things and was going to inquire if I had to buy another tag. I'll let you guys know how it works in Florida.
Texas requires a rabies shot every 3 years. I have rabies certificates for each of my dogs on file at my house. They also have rabies tags.
Over vaccination has been shown to be responsible for a lot of health issues in dogs and cats. I don't give my dogs DHLP shots every year anymore (distemper, hepatitis, parvo, parainfluenza) Instead, I have their titers checked - to see if their antibody levels are high enough. This is what my vet recommends now. The dogs that I am showing are tested regularly, and they also get kennel cough vaccine regularly as they are exposed to more crud at dog shows.

Here in Maricopa County in AZ...Phoenix metro area...we can have a 1 year rabies shot or a 3 year rabies shot. It's the dog owner's choice. As to the tag...we don't get tags. We have a piece of paper that shows the rabies vaccination. Whenever it's required to show proof of rabies vaccination, this paper is what we show. When I license my dogs' with the county, I send a copy of the vaccination with the form. Since it's a 3 year vaccination, I don't have to show proof of vaccination again until the old one has expired. We do have to license our dogs yearly with the county. I don't know what happens with the rest of the state of AZ. I only know what happens here in Maricopa county.
Today I went to the vet to pick up my rabies tag. I asked if their tags from last year would be good for 3 years, but they informed me that even though I got a 3 year rabies vaccine, I have to buy a new tag each year.
I thought it was nice that they offer a reduced price for low income families.

In RI a rabies shot is good for 2 years but we have to license yearly and prove the dogs have had their rabies shot. We only get a rabies tag every two years.
