Road Work

Of course the state has to do road work when the weather is warm. Of course many projects call for a "pilot car" to steer us through one-lane traffic. But, is is necessary to have a flagger stop us A MILE ahead of the work - so we can follow the pilot car past 50 yards of real work - to the next flagger, another mile away? Or, do they have to set up pylons, reducing the number of lanes, for NO VISIBLE WORK? I don't know about your State, but Washington is very good at all of the above!

reading your post I thought you were talking about Michigan at first,, there are 2 seasons in Michigan ,, winter and roadwork and the state symbol is the orange cone

Hey thmarty, have the geniuses in the street and highway departments in Yakima started putting roundabouts at every intersection like they have here in the Tri-Cities? I guess the auto body shops around here need more work. That's the only reason I can see for the damn things.

The round abouts are springing up in Spokane county too. What a pain. As for the road work on the east side of the state, after the winter we had I'm just glad the roads over here are getting fixed. I did notice that this is the first year in many that the interstate going through Spokane isn't being worked on.

Having lived in Michigan for a long time where road work is the norm, and now in Indiana where it is the same, I've learned to find a good radio station and relax. There's nothing I can do about it. Except........take the toll road to Michigan to avoid I-94 construction. And their rest centers are nicer and cleaner! Is anyone in Michigan government reading this? Clean up your act!!

Oh ,, don't get me started on the Michigan roadwork,,,,,The roadwork is one reason why I left,, I remember seeing the DPW fix and repave one strech of road one yr and the next yr be working on the SAME section again,, I read in the paper they had to tear up and repave the same section of a road once becuz the contractor used the wrong type of pavement,, and one yr they closed ALL the main north south routes thru Ann Arbor at the same time forcing all the traffic onto side streets, the local newspaper interviewing the contractor, asked why ,, and all he could say was "Oops",, I could go on and on,, I remember some people saying, " Well, it will be better when they're done" ,, it's just that they're never done,, Generational road work,, I really think they screw it up the first time they work on it so they'll have to come back and do it again,, guaranteeing more work so they get paid more

How about MA where only police officers are allowed to do this job at $40+ per hour? The cops say it's for public safety. Apparently we are the only state that cares about the public!

Road work is very unique here in California. We are a tourist state. The main company who contracts all the road work is Cal Trans. Cal Trans and Hitler are cousins, "you WILL do it my way!" So every summer when the tourists hit our highways, so do the road work crews. California is known for it's good weather year round and road work in the winter works here, but "we will do it their way".

I recall a Martin and Rowan comment during the Brownouts in NYC

"Now they'll have to tear up the streets by candlelight"

Ah the state of Washington, such a beautiful state, but what would you expect from a state, (reference = how they repair roads) when fornication is permitted on a public stage. The state of Washington needs to throw out a few Democrats.
