Wheat Free ?

A great article was post on going wheat free. I think this would be a great help for me.
Could people post thier experiences?
What do you eat? Some suggested menus.
Any good books for research?
Recipes? Simple. Very simple !
I know I can count on everyone to share wonderful posts.

According to that article, oatmeal seemed not to be harmful in that list. I've been having oatmeal for breakfast ever since I can recall. Thanks, Mom

I add apple juice instead of water in preparing it as well as cinnamon. I use the 5 minute kind, but maybe the 1-minute kind would be more suited to what this article is about. When it's read, I add a little sugar substitute and powdered milk. I don't taste the milk because of other good flavors.

I am on a tight budget and buy frozen 100% orange juice. I have about a 4 oz glass of that, a banana and 1 cup of black coffee.

After breakfast, I start working on computer and sip cold water. I usually go through one bottle. The water is from my tap, and I put it in two bottles and keep it refrigerated.

Another fad of aisles full of bottled water amazes me,

I have hypoglycemia and have to eat every 3 or 4 hrs to maintain blood sugar.

About 11 am, I have a small glass of 100% sugar free cranberry juice.

About 12:30pm, I microwave a sweet potato. Midway through fixing that, I put a whole apple in the microwave dish.

When time is up,(ABOUT 7-8 MNUTES) I cut open the potato as well as the apple. Dig out apple seeds. Add some cinnamon and either a little olive oil or SMART BALANCE.

About 3pm, I prepare some salmon, 98% lean beef, turkey patties already seasoned with onion and garlic, or boneless skinless chicken strips or pork strips.

I find if I marinade any meat for a few hours before cooking, I get lots of flavor and meat is tender

My favorite marinade is chopped garlic, onion and lime juice. I have a small food chopper. Make enough for a few days so I can use it at any time.

Another item I always have in the house is salsa. It makes a great marinade.

In preparing meat or fish, I rinse off the marinade and either add more of the above or other seasonings.

About 5:30, I have a serving of fresh veggies if they are on sale. Or go to the fresh frozen section and see what vegetables are ready to cook. No salt is in these. Often, they are better and fresher than what is in produce.

Like many of us, we can go all day and eat just fine. At nite, as we wind down, cravings or munchies start. I try to keep my hands busy, go for a walk, anything to distract myself. I like computer games.

Another question I ask myself when a craving starts is "Am I really hungry?" or "Why do I want to eat." I know the answer already. A flashback to a lifelong emotional eating habit started in childhood covering up pain which I internalized.

Last week, I found something to satisfy that craving at nite. Some cheerios and unsweetened chunky applesauce with a little cinnamon.

Watching portions throughout the day gives me control.

I was the one who posted that article about going wheat free. There have been pros and cons about many eating programs in the past. I'm not sure all the facts are in about this research.

To quote another member in our group, "common sense should be your guide." Don't overdue anything. If you think going wheat free would be good for you, give it a try.

It's not like you're going to try an all chocolate eating program or cabbage soup!

I've had good luck with Amazon.com. If you have a local bookstore, you could probably find it there or other recipes books

Wheat, barley, and rye are grains with similar a protein. Many people suffer from sensitivity to these grains which is often referred to as celiac disease. It's a genetic problem that surfaces in some but not others. In other words, we might have the problem gene but NOT the symptoms.

Oats can be a problem because the machines and storage bins used for oats are often the same as those used for wheat. The only Oats that are safe the celiac sufferers are Oats that come from farms and manufacturing that ONLY produce oats.

Following the link to the Wheat Free article, it read very similar to a "no carb" diet from my perspective. I may reduce some of my wheat/grain and see what happens but I'm not quite ready to ditch my whole grain cereals until I've read some more.

In the interim I'll keep eating lots of vegetables, drinking lots of water, getting as much exercise as I can, and keep an eye on my portion control!

I have a close friend that eliminated sugar, wheat and flour from her diet and lost over 100 pounds...not once, but three times she's managed to do this.
I've seen the amount of food she consumes..and it's quite alot. She even eats white potatoes, sweet potatoes and corn, just no wheat, sugar and flour and no processed foods. As soon as she consumes one of the three culprits above, the cravings start, thus the return of weight. She eats until she feels satisfied, and has maintain her goal weight for quite a few years.
