I haven't traveled much so this is a hard question to answer. I'm thinking the Dakota's would be nice. Or maybe Maine or Vermont. Northern California?
Your right about raising kids in Wisconsin. I was an active mother in class activities and went with them on school trips. I was a friend to my childrens' teacher's, even when they were in High school. I truly miss those years.
Why would I ever leave God's country?
I'd move to Pasadena, California. It's less rush-rush than L.A., prettier and has a fantastic art/theater scene. If I could move abroad, I'd choose Paris; I love it there.
I love where we are in WI, I don't like the real cold weather but tolerate it along with the snow. Every state has it's drawbacks.

I wouldn't leave WI but I love Kalispell MT and would live there if I had connections. The city is just the right size to have fast food and shopping with awesome scenery on the edge of Glacier Park
I would stay right here in Wisconsin. I would miss the change of the seasons and I think Wisconsin is the best place to live.
I'll stick with Wisconsin.... but otherwise I'd probably opt for one of the mountain states.
My Parents first came to Washington State where I was born and 4 years later we came to California where we stayed and I still here. I feel like I have one foot in Wisconsin and one in California. I love Wisconsin when my parents brought me for the first time in 1959. And I love visiting a cousin's farm. I faithfully for the two weeks got up and help with milking the cows. I ditto you about Wisconsin best state for kids and education for that matter. I remember a slogan the state had at one time People First. I haven't been back to Wisconsin since 1998,but hope to get back soon as I have airlines miles to use or lose. I hope the flooded areas are begining to recover as we are getting our many wild fires under control. Love all green lawns when I come in the summer. All are hills are a golden brown till November. And hopefully we will get more rain this coming winter and you won't have such a harsh winter.
I do agree with all. WI is a great state and I do miss it. We needed to make a choice - that is why we are where we are. It has been a big adjustment. When we first moved here a little over 4yrs ago - it was a total culture shock. Good thing I took 4 yrs of Spanish in high school. I find it interesting ( even thought I may not get every word) that I understand what is being said. It also helps to know and explain things when necessary.
I love the sunshine, warm weather and winter in the 60's and 70's.
Nothing is ever perfect. You take the good with the bad.

Annapolis Maryland. Late October falls; 16 inches of snow annually; charm of Door county; and the Chesapeake never freezes.
