Smoke Us If You've Got Us!

California Office of Emergency Services has made a fairly comprehensive, interactive map of our fires out here. You can click on an icon and get basic information about a particular fire...

Goldy, thanks for posting this map - very helpful. I thought there were fires around Santa Rosa - I was wrong. Glad to know that at least (my sister-in-law is near there).

Sorry about the fires - so sad!!

But I see that there are fires near Willits. That whole northern California area is so beautiful, I hate to see that happening there. (make that anywhere)

Yes, we have had fires around Willits and practically every place else here in Mendocino County. From what I understand they are getting the worst ones more under control this weekend. We had a few days of 100+ temps and that didn't help a lot. The weather has cooled and there is more humidity and that has aided the fire fight. This whole thing started around June 20th with dry lightning. At first, there were about 130+- fires, now they are down to about 6. Even if we can't see the fires, the smoke has made us all aware that they are still going. This has been the worst air quality that I can ever remember for this area. I have lived in this county all my life and there have been some serious fires over the years, but I guess the smoke was able to move on in those instances.
Here are the latest stats as of 7/12:

Fires - 6

Contained - 85 percent

Expected Containment date: July 16

Fatalities - 1
