McCain says "no new taxes" then ...

he outlines programs that will require new taxes.

On the up side, his handlers apparently got him to rehearse his speech this time because the delivery was better -- apparently part of the re-re-re-launch of his campaign and newly improved image with three, count'um, three teleprompters and "McCain staffers even handed out, for the first time, bound, pocket-sized booklets — just like the ones they use at the White House." Oh-oh. Maybe he IS McBush.

and please be sure to read past the sentence "Of course, the reality is a bit more complicated."

Howard Fineman of MSNBC,the epitome of unbiased reporting. Well chosen source, Mama.

By-the-way, what do you say to a new nickname for BHO? Based on his speechifying gaffes, without the teleprompters, may I suggest we substitute the name 'Clara'?

It seems everytime he speaks, a few minutes/hours later the report comes out Obama Clara-fies or his staff Clara-fies his earlier statement. Think of the time such a nickname could save! "At 1 PM Obama said.."

"At 1:30 PM Clara stated..."

As far as the 'stumbling' of McCain v. the smoooothness of Clara, remember, it was the snake in the Garden that was equally smooooth.

It's good that you used Howard Fineman's words, creating your own is hard! :)
I am a veteran and I agreed with McCain not liking the new GI bill. I think the longer a man stays in the military, the more benefits he should get. You don't agree? Do you think someone in your company who works there for two years should get all the same benefits as someone who was there 20 years? I think rewarding men/women who stay in the service is a good thing. btw, the old GI bill isn't that bad either.
As for taxes, keeping capital gains taxes low is good for all Americans, especially the middle class. The wealthy democrats in Congress don't need to care if the rich gets higher taxes. The wealthy already knows how to utilize the IRS rules for their advantage.

Yes we could cut back on welfare and save a bunch . Old, who don't get any anyway and kids only. You don't work you don't eat. Get rid of all illegals and quit taking care of them then maybe cut the rest of the world welfare off and we might be able to get by without raising taxes so we can give earned income that wasn't earned to start with. Everyone wants everything to stay the same but it can't to few paying taxes. Government spending can be cut and we can get by without raising taxes but we need to take back the jobs that "Americans" won't do?

He is not like Bush, they are completely different. So the McBush tactic won't work here. All that govt. spending has to come from someone's pocket. So get your wallet out. Obama is the new and improved "Tricky-Dicky". He will have the USA trillions in debt.

Howard Fineman is flaming liberal who hates McCain and anything Republican, certainly not an impartial critic. IMHO, proposing raising taxes in the midst of a recession is NUTS!!!! Well it's not if you aim is to destroy the American free enterprise system and introduce a more socialistic or even communistic government run system that redistributes income. Didn't they try that in Russia and China and failed miserably? I guess some people have short memories. However, it seems to be working read good in Cuba from all reports. We can all have universal health care and spend $300 per citizen per year and not the $5000 per individual we are spending in America. Maybe under a BHO Presidency we can import old cars from Mexico and drive them around on the $10gal gas. If it's still available after the oil companies decide to redirect their efforts to making lounge chairs out of plastic because gas in no longer profitable to refine and distribute.

Bush already has us trillions in debt and borrows money from China to pay his corporate cronies for their inflated bills. Outrageous!

Back during the primaries I read a great analysis of the economic plans of McCain, Clinton and Obama.
Recognizing these are plans that can't be done by Presidential whim, the review suggested that ALL the plans would make the deficit worse--- but McCain's to the greatest degree.

I'll see if I can find it.

Republican party of spending ~ a few notes on Bush's spending:

"There is a persistent myth that the increase in federal spending during the Bush administration is due, in large part, to an increase in spending on domestic programs. But the increase in federal spending is mostly due to changes in defense expenditures, and not all of the increase is war related."
"George Bush, has submitted a $US3.1 trillion ($3.4 trillion) budget for the next fiscal year that reflects his strategy for dealing with a costly war and a troubled economy: substantially boost military expenditures, rein in domestic spending - including for Medicare - and more than double the deficit."
"The next president will inherit a deficit of about $400 billion, and maybe more."

It looks to me you have no facts to back up OB so you keep attacking McCain, this kind of shows there is no truth or substance to his campaign. Thanks for helping McCain!

The number one holder of U.S. Treasury securities among foreign countries isn't China or Saudi Arabia. It's actually Japan. China is number two, the United Kingdom is number three, and a group of oil-producing countries (which includes Saudi Arabia) is number four.

So, China is number 2 and (gasp) Saudi Arabia is number 4!
