Vista Problems

I posted this on computer tips and tricks but will also post here in hopes of finding someone with answers. Our daughter and her husband just got a new Dell computer with Vista. They downloaded Avast antivirus, an adware program, Itunes and a screensaver but the problem didn't start at the time of any of these downloads. It has started showing blue screen error with no rhyme or reason to when and why. Sometimes they are on the internet, sometimes not. Has anyone else had this problem with Vista?

I just took a quick look on google and it was suggested that you get a registry cleaner and that might fix your problem.I have a program that has a reg cleaner. You can download at the site below. It has some very useful programs .

I Emailed them for the rest of the info. New baby in the house so we will see if they have time for a reply. If not, their second option (probably a good one)is to take it in and dump Vista and get XP installed. Thanks for the site Willcat. I will send the link on to them and thinking of trying it myself. Does it work with other programs already installed?

I too was stuck with Vista on my Dell Lappie back in Nov.
I was terribly unhappy with their customer support, it was my first time having a problem with a Dell product since I started using them 10 yrs ago.
So I sent the upper management a email bomb and was assigned a rep to help me. I emailed him each time I had a BSOD. It was to the point I insisted on a new Lappie with XP installed.
I used what leverage I has as a Business account holder to get all the attention I could.
Then when the last set of HotFixes came out about 2 months ago, the BSODs drastically reduced.
Make sure all your updates are current. Let me know if you need a contact person, Ill give you the guys email I was assigned.
Im really disappointed in Dells email support. They were step by step checkbook replies from outsourced employees that did not understand my words.
I believe Dell made a serious marketing error using Vista on its machines.
Im seriously considering removing their promotions from my business website.
And they will also lose my business account which amounts to thousands of dollars a year for them.
But I dont think Im important to them, their loss.
Once again, make sure you have all the updates installed.
And from experience, Vista does not like 3rd party products.

Woo Hoo! Willcat. I decided I might as well give the Utilities a try myself so I downloaded, ran a scan, and did a fix. I have a screamin machine again and I thought I kept it pretty well cleaned up. Don't know if it will help Blue Screen but it sure helped at my house. ......signing off now if a cloud of dust.

Hi ramblinrose3:

This is not a Vista problem.

The problem is with the antivirus software and all the other junk that comes with these computers from Dell, HP and others.

Remove all of the of this stuff.

Compuer Viruses will not get on your system unless you invite them.

Practice safe computing.

I have two machines with Vista, one for a year and a half now. Not problems that I can attribute to Vista other than it being slower than XP. It does seem to be more secure than the previous operationg systems. Just my unprofessional opinion but I run the computers as they come for a month or two if I can before adding or downloading items. That way you know it is up to speed and problems are likely coming from some new changes if they occur. I tried Avast but did not like it and went with AVG which I am very happy with.

Thanks to all of you for the replies and suggestions. I haven't talked to the kids for a few days so don't know how the computer is behaving. I pass all of your suggestions along and hope they find what they need.
