We need offshore, onshore, and any other kind of drilling we can get from our own country, and quit paying for it from foreign countries, especially those that we are at war with.....come on people, we need to go after our "own" oil from our own country, and build refineries too. Technology has come such a long way, we can do it in an environmentally safe way. Our country was built upon the going after our own oil and energy resources, not "buying" it from foreign countries! Let's make our country great again, and quit making ourselves look like fools to the rest of the world with our ridiculous environmental standards that other countries certainly don't go by....they are drilling in our back yard.
samnov evidently you didn't catch the post days ago.
A 2007 report by the federal Energy Information Agency cast doubt on whether increased drilling’s ability would have any impact on market prices and noted that it would take ending the moratorium five years before it resulted in new oil production. And even if extracted in full, the untapped reserves are expected to amount to just a drop in the bucket of international supply: “Because oil prices are determined on the international market, however, any impact on average wellhead prices is expected to be insignificant.”
from what i have seen so far, these oil and fuel prices are not slowing us down one iota.
perhaps if the price is $50 a gallon we can send a message if everybody quit buying so much.
Any state completely dependent on tourism and their pristine beaches for their economy is afraid of offshore drilling. Oil spills are not an "if", they are a "when".
The solution is to get off oil dependency, not prolong the agony and cause more problems along the way.
yeah it makes me sad sometimes .. i think the public is so misinformed ... like samnov here .. somehow a lot of people think this oil crisis can be solved with more oil .. it won't .. does the term gone with the wind mean anything ?? well thats where the days of gettin gas for less than 2 dollars a gallon and drivin hummers went .. take a look around .. accept it .. and deal with it .. this oil thing is such a compound problem .. the more we keep burnin fossil fuels the more we contribute to global warming .. which will contribute to the nasty weather we've been gettin lately .. has anyone noticed things like hurricane katrina and hurricane wilma ?? do you think these are coincidences ?? if you do then you've been under the same rock as gw bush .. so if we setup some oil rigs off the coast of florida lets see what can happen .. use the foresight that god gave us .. come august or september we get another catagory 5 hurricaine and it completely blows the whole rig down spewein thousands of barrels of oil in the gulf off the fragile florida coast .. fast forward to january when florida makes it's money from tourism.. only no tourists come because all the florida beaches are fouled with oil .. even the ones on the atlantic side because of the gulf stream ..so what happens to the people in florida ?? well the old stories of the proverbial ghost town because the old mill shut down come to mind ?? florida's whole economy is based on tourism . we have no industry down here .. none .. all we have is sunshine and beaches .. you foul that up and you'll see a shitload of hotels that sit empty .. which will put a shitload of hotel workers out of work .. which will also hit the resturants .. and the malls .. shit escalates .. we have 20 million people in this state .. how many do you think will stay here if there's no work ?? we'll go from the 4th largest to maybe ahead or montana and wyoming overnite ..
drillin for more oil is not the answer to the problem .. we need cars that use less oil and more solar and batery power.. it's not gonna happen overnite.. but if we start now ( and it is to a small degree look at all the car plants switchin over to gas sippers instead of gas guzzlers ) the oil co.s want you to believe we need more oil .. don't be fooled .. more oil means more money for them .. thats their lifesblood .. like a mosquito suckin you dry to the last drop . they will resist anything that will threaten their livlihood .. and solar and wind power does that .. or even power from the tides .. there is so much clean power thats renewable everyday and it's harmonious with nature .. we don't need more oil .. we need to start perfecting alternate forms of energy now .. not next week .. now .. if not now then when ?? when gas is 10 dollars a gallon ? wake up .. WAKE UP .. WAKE UP .. WAKE UP .. PLEASE WAKE UP .. frenchy ..
We need to stop the fear mongering about global warming; it is going to happen. I like the fact that people are trying to be green but its not going to stop the change. We have needed to go green for years.Off shore drilling is not what has me worried I am more worried about what people are doing that hurts more than helps the move to cfl's puts both mercury into land fills an rf into our homes but that all anybody talks about for light.T Bone Pickins has put up windmills an jumped on the no oil band wagon as it looks like windmills are having problems of there own.Remember the Kennedy's would not let windmills be built near the compound. Did they know something?
Our ultimate goal must to to reduce dependency on oil. Offshore drilling impacts the environment, it disrupts the shelves and could cause a collapse. Plus, the biggie, there is no eivdence that it will have any impact for at least fives years. This is just a ploy by big oil to get more leases.
The American that we all grew up in, was one that beleived in building a better mouse trap. It's time to build an economy based on something other than oil and protect our environment.

wELL ibis that just shows they know where their bread is buttered. With gas so high their constituents are starting to pressure them. And they are going with the flow. They want to get reelected.
To me the problem with just seeing the solution to the oil problem as of shoe dilling plays into the hands of the major producers, OPEC We need to change the rules of the game? The only way is to have a different or various sources of energy. This way they lose their influence.
