Both Faces of Obama
Obama waxed quite eloquent in the debate tonight about the nation's responsibility to prevent genocide and even said he would have sent troops to stop genocide in Africa.
Surely this means that he would have sent troops to Iraq!
After all, the chemical bombing of Halabja, when the Iraqi air force dropped canisters of mustard gas and a range of nerve agents, probably sarin, tabun and VX certainly qualifies as genocide. This became the largest chemical weapons attack on civilians in history. Some 5,000 men, women and children died a horrible and agonizing death on that infamous day. Another 10,000 were wounded.
Then there was the "Anfal" campaign against the Kurds -- 100,000 Kurds were killed according to Human Rights Watch. Those took place in the 1980s
And there was more: the torture and murder of Shiites (Saddam was a Sunni) -- in one instance in 1991 Saddam's forces killed 60,000 Iraqis during a rebellion in Iraq.
So. If Obama did what he claims he would do, he would have invaded Iraq to prevent all that genocide.
