Raspberry Tart! how fine a hue!
A new environment for my workshop
A bright "How do you do"
Something to greet me
When I rise and shine
That propels me from sleeping
And out of the 'old grind!
Thanks kid!
I needed that!
Now on to Summer Camp
and new challenges!
Love ya!
Karen
Colleen, that was a good one!
Picking the right color? What a task.... Let me think:
When I stop the frantic rush and sit quietly with the hush, I feel pastel, pastel all over and all around, pastel from the stars down through the ground.
When I disregard the voices barking orders and glide behind those veiled silent borders, soft yellow sunlight melts the noisy crowds into fuzzy peach glaze around pink fluffy clouds.
When I confound my brain with simple still and give up the fight
to climb the hill, my thoughts turn soft, round, and blue--
opalescent drops
that
fall
soft
as
dew.
and so...I still can’t choose.... I’ve got it! A neutral pallet, just a background, to display the colors of the moment as I dream them.
Ah, we are on a roll with these! (so to speak). Great images all, from that sparky tart to the pastel blue that falls as into a pool. You inspire me, my friends!
If you're ever looking for ideas, check out your local hardware store where the paint racks offer up infinite possibilities. I must admit, my own entry (next) is a take on Brazilian Red by Ralph Lauren/the Safari line. Innocent as can be, this chip was just waiting for me, and the store clerk was never the wiser about where it might lead as he encouraged me to take as many cards as I wanted.
Brazilian Ruby, rich and dark, fiery with the beat and the heat
of wild gems pulsing deep beneath the earth’s crust –
rolls on smooth as a humid cloak of dusk, its gloss
reflecting the outline of my body defined by candles’ shadow.
In this room I will sink into the warm depths of indulgence,
licking my lips as I step across the threshold, anticipating
the next revelation: ripe fruit glistening on the offered plate
of dreams; in waking, the jewel of my solitude sanctified.
Should I choose to share this room with another, its magic
would be no less than holy: the crown of thorns transformed
by gold pure and true, circlet set upon his head in royal invitation
to join me, to watch the moonrise together within these walls.
I don't know whether to make this a prompt or a comment so i will; start it as a comment.
For the last 6 years until 3 months ago I sold paint. For 3 years now i have been taking the names of the paint colours like you suggest and then taking those words and 4 times a week writing a haiku containing the colour name. I also used to make up colour names when we created colours to go with the customers stories. I gave children paint chip strips as bookmarks and told them next time they came in the store they had to tell me a story involving one of the colours i.e.
We could challenge each other to exercises doing this. I use the Pittsburgh "Voice of Color" chips because they are in both Canada and the USA.
Here are some titles..."Violet Whimsey......Silver Chalice.....Smokey Grape
Oh my goodness, Eyesthefuture, this is almost too good to be true! Please DO feel free to post whichever colors you like as prompts, no matter what the brand. Shy of paint cards in hand, we can imagine what those colors would be and take off from there.
Seek, the Brazilian Ruby you chose worked out so well with the phrases you used. I like the hint you gave that you may share it someday.
Yes, P5, I remain ever-hopeful!
