Sometimes Walmart is referred to as "the evil store". There's been talk and documentaries about how they treat their employees, especially the ones overseas. I had a cousin, however, who was pleased and said she wanted continue working with the company. I was going to stop shopping there. Then I heard good things that they've done as well. My husband says all retailers have employee issues anyway. I still shop there on occasion because I find things there at a much more reasonable price and some items I can't find anyplace else.
Well now I found out that Walmart fills 30 day prescriptions (Rx) for $4 and 90 day prescriptions for $10. I feel that is a huge help for those who are seniors, low wage earners and/or uninsured and can't afford the high cost of medicines. I know so many people in that situation right now. Even though I have a good insurance plan with RX benefit, they won't approve my Rx for Aciphex to cure the acid reflux. It also heals the damage caused. I was told to try an OTC remedy which did not work as well. It would be $400 plus to fill this Rx out of pocket. I'm going to see if Walmart will fill it.
Walmart probably won't. There are other prescription drugs out there that aren't so expensive and would do better than the over the counter kind. From what I understand, you aren't going to get the newest and most expensive drugs for $4.00. Also, the way Walmart treats their employees is not the major issue as far as I'm concerned. It's that they buy everything from China. That provides jobs and money for China. We need them here.
The issues people have with WalMart go far beyond how they treat their employees. Do some internet searches and see what you find. I won't shop there. I have been in the store a few times, although it has been years. I did notice that some of their low prices were due to the fact that the packages were smaller than the packages you would buy elsewhere. The packages looked identical, but they were smaller and contained less product. So people may not be saving what they think they are saving.
I've noticed that most of the people who say they won't shop at Walmart are reacting to bad press, and not their own personal experiences with Walmart.
Walmart isn't always the best on everything, but I find it worth my time to shop there, because they have a lot of good bargains. I need bargains to survive on my retirement income.
My daughter also works at Walmart, and she can make more money there with better benefits than other places in town.
I think Walmart would be out of business in a heartbeat if it wasn't providing stuff people need at reasonable prices. They wouldn't be able to keep employees if they were worse employers than other businesses around.
On the subject of drugs, the $4. prescriptions are for certain older common prescription meds, and not the fancy new stuff. For other drugs, try Costco.
I found, through comparison shopping, that I can do as well or better in terms of value (price and quality) shopping in other stores. I do not like the corporate policies of Walmart. I could write quite a bit on the subject, but I don't really think this is the place to go into mind-numbing details on all of the reasons I don't like Walmart.
It is not only Walmart who is getting everything from overseas. Most places you check it is the same even good old SEARS most of their tools are not "Made In the USA" As for the size of the boxes it is every where The containers are downsized from the manufactures and suppliers. Joyce
I found packages that were about 5 to 10 percent smaller for the same product compared to what I found in supermarkets or Kmart or Target. I am not talking about how manufacturers reduce package sizes across the board to increase their profits by charging the same for a smaller package. Walmart buys in large enough quantities that they can order products in whatever package sizes they choose. It is a huge mistake to believe that Walmart is always going to have the lowest prices. They want you to think that, they spend a lot of money convincing you of that. In some cases, they offer prices so low that they lose money on those items. They do this when they open new stores, so that people will believe that Walmart really has lower prices. They put the smaller local businesses out of business and once they have you coming back to shop on a regular basis and they have killed the competition, they raise the prices and give themselves a nice healthy profit margin.
........In my refrigerator, stands a constant box of Arm and Hammer "Bicarbonate of soda", the only remedy I ever remember being in our house as we grew up. Our household consisted of 11 children and 2 adults who ate and drank such as we had, or went hungry. The sooner we get back to basics, the better we will fare in this depressed economy without depending on new fangled remedies. Good luck!!!!!!
I agree lets get back to the basics! I read on the MSNBC message boards that this woman was bragging about how much she saved with coupons, but the crap she bought isn't anything I would buy..hahaha paper plates napkins paper towels, raid, prell shampoo, chemical cleaning products well the thing is all expesnive name brand things, things that hurt the enviroment..I know some do buy these things, but they are definatly not on my shopping list... I quit buying paper towels and napkins a long time ago... buy an inexpensive package of dish clothes, and dish towels. Use baking soda, vinegar ect to clean with, well I know I am not telling ya'll anything new...
I seldom use coupons, either. They are usually for the more expensive brands or for things that I don't use. So, if I use them, I end up spending more money than I would have if I purchased my usual brands.
