Good news about the smoke clearing ThisLife. Take more pictures while you can. Sounds like you got out over the holiday, and that's a good thing.
TL is right. We're still getting it in the Valley. It's dead calm out there today...and a little smokey. Where's the wind?!
It's still very bad here in the Sacramento Valley. Yesterday we went ahead with our breakfast ride but cut it short. Instead of riding the bike the 10 miles into town to the start, I drove. It was already hot, smokey, and stifling at 9AM. We rode 15 miles west to Davis for a breakfast stop. Some riders wore masks to filter out smokey particulates. I kept imagining that I was gasping for breath...mostly psychological I think. When we arrived at the cafe, one rider was sick and feeling woosey, but insisted that he could make it home slowly on his bike. After breakfast, the temperature was close to 100 degrees and ride back into Sacramento was not pleasant, especially when we had to stop to fix a flat tire. It hit 106 degrees yesterday and is supposed to peak at 108 in Sacto (but over 112 in other areas of the valley)...Yuck!
Take care dstorm! Riding in 106 degree temperatures with pollution is too hard on the system. The smoke returned to the Bay Area on Monday. I swear that I will never post another clear air announcement again as it seems to bring on the opposite condition!! Bay breezes dispel the smoke somewhat but that does not help you inlanders as the smoke is being blown to your area. Keep us posted on riding conditions in Sacramento and Davis. I hope that you all get a reprieve from the smoke. It's bad...
All of the country is concerned about the horrible fires in California, and the deadly smoke that is blowing around the entire state.
DStorm, please do not ride in temps over 95, and in the smoke at that. We want you around, and on the bicycle, for many years to come.
ThisLife, no more photos of the smoke clearing, because that means its moving inland somewhere.
Dave
We're off again today for the Thursday breakfast. Forecast is about the same as yesterday. We're staying in town this time, though, and will make it even shorter......and July was going to be my big training month to get in shape for the August Oregon tour. Well, I shouldn't whine. Some folks are losing their homes this month and a lot of firefighters are putting in 24 hr days. : (
Here's where we stand with the air quality situation. Notice that Sacramento (dstorm land) is surrounded by fires... Pray for rain
