Yes , it has happened to me . In some ways it's a form of flattery . When it backfires and indures people to you it can be positive .
Some gossip is true. Some is a total fabrication to meet the needs or get the desired results from the person telling you the tidbit. Ask yourself what might prompt them to share something like that with you, and then listen to your heart.
If need be, go back to the source and say, "It was reported to me that you said this-and-this. If it's true, would you like to explain it? I prefer to get my information straight from the source, always." Make it clear you don't intend to tattle about where you heard the item, you just want to clarify.
There are people here that I've gotten to know well enough to consider them friends. There have been times that we've exchanged information, but it wasn't so much gossip about them as just our opinions about things done or said. When you're dealing with human beings, you have to expect there will be human things happening. And I think what you've expressed is pretty human. But when it turns really ugly or is an assumption rather than fact, it's probably best that it be stopped - and that can happen with us.
Yes Moto......it hasn't been very long ago that I had two people pm me because they saw where someone had made a post and they knew the guy was talking about me. I think that is very tacky.....when someone makes a post about another person in an open group....a group that I was not a member in at that time. Its very shallow and low of anyone to do that. Almost high school mentality.

I hate gossip and have been in and out of several eons groups because of backbiting om the posts. NO, I haven't been participating in the negativism. I am one of those members who totally avoids negative vibes.
I don't receive many PM's either. Maybe the objective of all of this eons activity is gossip!

I do not carry tales out of school moto. and lots of times when I hear something I pretty much ignore it, cause I know the story has another side to it.
