The Tour

Did anyone get a chance to see the first stage of the Tour yesterday? I got to see the last 40 minutes or so.

What an exciting event. I have seen other tours, and races, but this one seems to give much more excitement to the watchers, and certainly to the participants.

That finish was a classic, with a little twist. That bridge in the last seven or eight kilometers, was a nasty one, where the road narrowed down to less than two lanes, then the riders had to go up hill to the finish line.

Then a couple riders broke out too early and couldn't sustain their sprints, while others passed, then this guy from Espania, Valverde, wasn't it, just shot like a rocket past all of them. Wonderful bicycle drama.

Too bad about the injuries, and crashes along the way.

VS is doing a world class job of broadcasting these events.

I am doing my ride early so that I can catch the action this morning again. Ah wonderful, if its July, it must be Tour time.

I've been following the Tour, Dave. I think it's very exciting this year with two American teams in the Tour and more than a couple of great riders on those two teams. I guess the Columbia team just materialized right before thet Tour. I really haven't been keeping up this spring on new developments in the cycling racing scene but I do know that there has never been TWO American teams competing in the same Tour before.

Yesterday's individual time trial sure fooled all the experts! And a new yellow jersey--that makes 3 different riders wearing the yellow already and the real mountains have yet to come! Oh, boy!

Everytime I think about the Tour orgainizers and the faulty French testing labs and how they badgered Lance and how Floyd may have been wrongfully stripped of his yellow jersey in 06, I want to slap a Frenchman (well maybe not all Frenchmen!); but the Tour is really something very special to me and I hope this year it will "rise from the ashes".
