Dogs don't sweat

I was told by someone I trusted, that dogs don't sweat. They cool off by panting and by getting their paws and body wet. I believe that to be true, however, I only got it from one source. Has anyone heard this before? THe little guy in this photo confirms it I believe, and if not, it looks like it is doing the job...

I have heard this too, but Chip sweats. Not in the real wet way, his fur feels damp, almost stickey. But I do know they pant and put their paws in water.

Actually I do believe that dogs sweat but from their pads on there feet. They pant to lower there body temp as well. That is why we tell people not to cut the hair on Shelties. Their hair insulates them from the sun and since they don't sweat it doesn't really make them cooler. I have seen dogs at dogs shows leave wet footprints because they were hot.

Dogs do sweat through their pads and feet since there's no fur on them. That explains the damp footprints we see. The main way they reduce heat is by panting. And we all see our dogs with their mouths open and their tongue "hanging out" after exercise or during hot weather.

That's what I've heard, and read, as well.

My morkie likes to cool off by laying in the water dish. It's her personal swimming pool.
