A Nice Birthday
Thanks to all my critter friends for their happy birthday wishes! I am having a very
nice birthday. Mom put me out on the porch in my stroller at about 8 this morning
and I stayed out for an hour before I called her to bring me inside. When I came in
I did a thorough patrol of the house, had a snack and a drink of water and said
good morning to Grandma then I asked Mom to put me outside again and she said
yes. The sun was already getting hot so Mom rolled down the awning and parked
me under it. It was nice and cool in the shade and I watched the birds for awhile
before I came inside for a nice long nap.
Since I won’t eat anything but kibble, Mom’s not making me anything special to
eat today. I don’t like people food and don’t even like canned cat food though I
will - very rarely - lick a tiny bit of tuna oil drained from the canned tuna Mom
and Grandma eat. For lunch I did get a special treat. Mom made omelettes for
herself and Grandma. When she makes omelettes she slices up green olives to
put in the eggs and today she gave me a whole stuffed olive. I pretended it was
prey and smacked, chased and finally pounced on and disemboweled it. (Well,
the pimento did look a little like guts.) That was so much fun! I nibbled a little
bit of the olive; what a strange tasting thing it was. Anyway, chasing that bugger
made me tired so I took another nap. Mom must have thrown it out while I was
sleeping cuz it was nowhere to be found when I woke up. That was okay; Mom
played “go get it” with me. She coils up a piece of nylon rope and throws it and
I run and bring it back to her. Then she holds the rope, wiggles it in the air or
drags it on the floor while I jump, pounce and try to snag it away from her. When
I do, she’ll take it back, coil it and throw it again. Of course, I had to go take
another nap after that!
I can’t wait for the fireworks tonight! I’m not afraid of loud noises and I like the
pretty colors. I also like to sit at a window and watch the lightning while the
thunder booms. My late “brother” always hid under Grandma’s bed when there
was a thunder storm. He was such a funny boy. I DO miss him though. I guess
Mugsy’s death is making me think of Junie. He acted a lot like a dog so maybe he
and “the dude” are hanging together now. I think they’d get along really well.
Junie liked to play run-and-hide then he’d jump out when Mama found him and
he’d pretend to run away only he’d run slow so he didn’t get too far ahead of her
so she could see where he went to hide. He also liked guitar music and used to sit
and watch Mama play her guitar.
Well, I’m gonna see if my mom will let me out in my stroller so I can watch the
sunset. Then we’ll watch the fireworks together or at least what we can see of
them from this part of town.
See ya!
