Message 160 of 979

Isaiah Said It, Jesus Read It

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. - Luke 4:18-19

Without Jesus Christ, one cannot know true liberty;
with Jesus Christ, one cannot be subject to bondage.

Enjoy a blessed Independence Day!

Same to you, Pressly.

The hard part about the "liberty" is learning how to live in it. Guilt oppresses, fear oppresses, worry oppresses...well, you get the gist. The entire Christian life is about living in the reality that Christ has released me from my captivity to the sin nature.

So true, so true. But if we can, like Paul, be honest with ourselves and with God, there is that wonderful balm of blessed grace:

For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! - Romans 7:22-25
