What do you think still makes American the best country ever?

America is still the best country because of the freedoms we have. We can travel anywhere at any time in this country. Freedom of speech. Women have many "rights" here that they do not in other countries.
I would like to see changes in politicians, national or local officials, even city officials, county boards,etc. And changes in the news media.
I only have "faith" in two local politicians here in my locality. Both are in the Illinois Congress. I have little faith in any of the candidates running for the Presidency or those already in any other office. The president can do little without the backing of congress. Congress is so full of people that are "full" of themselves and spend the taxpayers hard earned money without really thinking about how it does affect most people.
I despise how the news media can write such garbage about people. Yes, people are human and do "immoral" things. Does that really mean that they have to be hounded by the media day and night 24/7. Do we really have to know evey little tid bit about everyone. Maybe we should concentrate more on our own lives. All of the famous people still bleed like we do and they still put their pants on the same way.
Boy! I could go on and on. But I have other things that need to be done.
Have a great 4th everone and be safe.

I'm grateful for our system of government...or at least how it was designed to operate. There's still a sense of justice, we are relatively secure, have opportunities to succeed and prosper. I feel very blessed to have been born in America.
I'm bothered by the amoral behavior that has become accepted, the decline of the family unit, a lack of civility and common courtesy, the corruption we see in politics. (It was probably always there to some extent). That doesn't have anything to do with the principles and foundations of our government, but with the human heart and it's freedom to choose.
I'm disappointed that (though we often deny it) we don't value integrity, service, self-sacrifice, commitment, fairness, wisdom. It seems the baser things are promoted and cheered.
As a Country, though, we care about the poor and the oppressed peoples' around the world. I believe we try to be an influence for good. It's easy to be cynical but it's such a wonderful and beautiful place to live.

I am very proud to be an American! I have always said, and told my children, that it is the greatest thing of value we have. It's hard to say what makes it so special, it seems 'everything.' It is a beautiful country with sights here that are so beautiful I feel no need to go anywhere else to see more. I love our freedoms, and agree with most of what 'nonamegrandma' said. I do, definitely, believe in freedom of the press, but I think too many times they print things just to have something to write.
I love our PEOPLE. We read about the ones that do terrible crimes, but the majority of our people are compassionate, caring and kind. They go out of their way to help others and will usually gladly assist anyone that needs help. They are also so talented!
I love the opportunities we have here and how we can choose our own occupations and live where we like through our own efforts.

The USA is the envy of the world for the degree in which we all pitch in and work for the common good. Being an American by definition means sharing the burdens and the pleasures of citizenship.
What I'd change is the idea that we know all there is to know and have nothing to learn from others. There are plenty of countries who have gotten it right and we could learn from each other.

As a white/Christian/American, even I can say it is the freedom that we all have here to express ourselves, our opinions and thoughts. We are the envy of the world.
Able to move freely about the counrty, no visa, check points, etc. and the unlimited opportunity to achieve.
However, as much as I believe all this, I would love to see a more unified effort on the part of all Americans to express their national pride and understanding of others, this I would like to see changed...or improved.
