A Case for Keeping Your SUV.

I saw a piece on TV about this women in Santa Barbara who is living in her SUV with her two dogs because she could no longer afford the $2100/month rent for her condo after she lost her job as a Mortgage approver. The women was 66 years old, now working in a nursing home for $8 hr. Apparently the good people of Santa Barbara have a gated parking lot where there are some number (she said 120, but I don't know if they were all in the same lot) of homeless people who live in their SUV's. It was not mentioned if she was collecting SS, but at 66 and just earning $8/hour she certainly could.

This story made me think, maybe keeping the SUV is really a plausible back-up plan for the upcoming Obama administration. With the government taking all our money, they could at least build us a few gated parking lots. Too bad there are no more drive-in theaters, they could convert them for parking, with heaters instead of speakers (for us easterners) and a concession stand to buy hot dogs and go to the bathroom.

I saw that too mejk. Very sad situation. Hmmm... how has the economy done in the past 9 years?

I'll send you some blankets, don't often need them here in Texas :-)

Now we Pennsylvanians can cling to guns, religion and SUV's.

Let's see, we got into the current situation with the Bush Administration - but it's going to be Obama's fault. Yeah, that's the ticket...

Seems to me there is plenty of blame to go around. Unscrupulous lenders hiding behind legalese and lending money to people they had no business lending to, people taking on loans they knew they couldn't afford and politician's in both parties who let it happen and now won't offer real solutions. The next President, no matter who it is, is going to have a mess to clean up. And Congress had better get their act together and work together on solutions or they may all find themselves out of office.

An SUV is not a comfy, sanitary or safe living environment for either humans or animals, so it's not a solution for anyone. But

Western European governments take your money, but in return you get free health care, cheap housing, free university education, an infrastructure that isn't disintegrating, and good public transportation.

In America, when the government takes your money, it goes to. . .hmmm. . .good question: Iraq??

Actually Tonto, it always seems to end up in some slimy Politician's pocket...on both sides of the Aisle.

A Pox on all those pontificating scum.

Excellent post Nimbus..

Mejk, I really wish you could get past the red/blue state mentality and really look at America's problems. The past 20 years have been a horror for the American worker. Nothing red/blue about it. BTW...no one...ever...has spent money and had big government like bush...no one.

Yes. Let's see now. The Republicans controlled Congress from 1995 until 2007. From 2001 until 2007 we had (and still have) a Republican president. So we have an economy that's crashing and burning, people living in their SUV's and it's all Obama's fault.

The blame game already starts before he's even in office.

At least the woman is working, even if it's in an $8 an hour job. My guess is that she IS collecting Social Security and supplementing it with her job. I'm sure there must be cheaper apartments than the $2,100 a month she was paying. Then again, she may be over her head in credit card debt and can't afford cheaper quarters. They never tell us the WHOLE story.

Anyway, I'd be up $hit creek if I had to live out of my car, since it's a two-seater sports car. IG thought ahead, though - good planning, buddy!

Oh heck IG if people can’t blame it on someone even before the elections who can they blame? Never themselves.

I bought my Sequoia back when they were offering a tax rebate for any vehicle over 6000 GVW. Right after I bought the gas prices went sky rocketing. Hmmm...seems odd.
