Mechanic Perfected an Engine 110 MPG

The Napoleon mechanic says he's
perfected an engine developed by
his grandfather 60-years ago--an
engine that gives his 1987 mustang
110-miles to the gallon.

yea, lol right..
if i had that car i'd have tags on it so i could drive it on the streets..
btw, that wouldn't stay on the road at 160.. let alone 180..

Is it a real deal .. have no clue for certain.
Your comment as: wouldnt stay on the road at high
speed, again cant say what his car might or might
not do as far as traction during high speeds.

In Germany I can tell you driving on the auto-bond
used to you were allowed to drive at any speed you
choose. In Germany they have smaller cars then USA's Mustangs which do extremely well at speeds in excess
of 100 mph.

We owned a Shelby Ford Fast Back (1969) which
held to the road with no problems. Not sure what
this mechanics done to insure what his Mustang
can or cannot do at a high rate of speed.

If this car can do as he states I hope it doesnt
turn out same as the Gentleman who invented years
ago a car he designed which didnt use Gasoline.
One car mfg bought his patent - then buried it:
.. Perhaps you can recall this ..

in the early 70's a local mechanic engineered a fuel sysyem
that would get up to 70 mpg.
after several threats on his and familys life and his shop
"accidentally" burning down, he scrapped the project.
will never know if it was the govt or big oil that did this. possibly the auto makers.
probally over the years there have been other systems designed, but for "unknown" reasons, never got marketed!!

atomic , your story took place in ElPaso Tx . As for this car , he will NOT let anyone look at the engine as yet . Maybe because it won't do it ? Just think what effect this will have on the price of oil if it's true ?

Perhaps it better to post in part
where as the article mentions the
validity of the gentlemans claim.

Cant say I'd blame him for denying lookie lous at
what's under the hood until the cars been entered.

Apparently Rock Ventures was afforded the opportunity
others have been denied.

While Pelmear won't let us look under the hood, he says the technology can easily be applied to smaller engines for even better gas mileage. He's entering the car in the prestigious Progressive Automotive X competition; a race where inventors from around the world compete for the best mileage with a car that is the most marketable. Pelmear says, his technology is very marketable because it will allow people to drive large cars and SUV's without sacrificing gas mileage.

Rocket Ventures, a subsidiary of the Regional Growth Partnership of Toledo, tested the car, and business development manager Todd Davies says, Pelmear's claims
seem to be true.

atomic your correct - unfortunately, there are more
of the same - some we'll never know about. That news
has been kept out of the public eye for years by major
Auto makers of which some have bought the patents and
had the seller sign specific disclosures.

That we can be sure of.

I have heard similar reports going back 30 years, but have never seen any proof. If I had this technology, I would quietly integrate it into society before the big 4 could complain. If these reports were MORE than someones self grandizing imaginary boasts, the US would not be in the mess it is facing now.

I'm with you Angela, except for one thing. I don't believe the "Big Four" would try to stifle this kind of innovation. It would give them the step up on the Japanese, Koreans and Germans they've needed for years.

I did a take on conspiracy theories on the group Tough Questions & Answers just last night. I've heard about carburetors that can burn water as fuel and conversion kits that'll get you 100 or more miles per gallon most of my 63 years. All of them have turned out to be urban legends.

I really, truly hope this guy's granddaddy did find a way to increase the efficiency of internal combustion engines to the degree he says it does. With the emergence of China and India into the world market, there would be enough affordable gasoline to last a few more years. But, please excuse me if I'm skeptical. I'll believe it when my PT Cruiser is getting 100+ MPG (very soon I hope).

I remember reading articles in Popular Mechanics when I was a kid that talked about this secret carburetor that would get fantastic gas mileage, but the patent was picked up by GM and they were keeping it secret. There were a number of variations on this story - nobody ever seems to have seen this invention. There also were many ads that advertised ways of improving your mileage - all were fakes. One claimed proof of the improvement in gas mileage showing a test where they drove from coast to coast with and without the device, turned out they went one way through the us, US Gallons, and the other way through Canada (Imperial Gallons). The increase in mpg was based on two different size gallons. I noticed a comment on this story where the mileage on this car (which runs on E85 - 85%Ethanol) was based only on the 15% gasoline it uses, therefore it was just normal Mustang mileage when based on the gallons of fuel, not gallons of gasoline.

Hope they are onto something, but I wouldn't bet on it.

This reminds me of the old joke about the guy that put all the gas savings devices on his car at the same time, and had to stop every so often to take some gas out of the tank so it wouldn't overflow.
