Noisy Holiday

Friday is the 4th of July.....a fun but noisy holiday.
Does anyone have a fearful furkid and how do you help your dog get through the
fireworks?
If not by acting fearful, how does everyone's dog cope with the 4th of July fireworks?
My two tend to bark at the noise, as if it were thunder, or some sort of intruder.
I'm blessed that neither is phobic about all the bang bang!
Oh--and Happy 4th to all!

As I live in Canada, we just celebrated Canada Day on July 1st complete with fireworks. The Manitoba Humane Society had put out a bulletin and a special message for pet owners regarding pets and fireworks. They suggested leaving pets home when attending the event that concludes with fireworks as most pets react to the tremendous noise and the bright light with extreme fear and nervousness. In fact the day after the fireworks the Humane Society mentioned that more than 10 dogs ran away from the owners where the fireworks were held, and some others were shaking and whining fearfully beside their owners.

So I guess you are lucky Tzumomma with yours as they bark at the noise rather than cower and shiver at your feet.
My Shih Tzu Zookie had developed a fear of noise at pretty much everything these days. A new washer was put in so when he hears that he shakes and wants to run and stay outside. He does not much like the noise my dryer makes either. When we have thunder and lightening , he shakes uncontrollably and wants to hide in the lower level of the house. He is almost 3 now and he never was this bad when he was a puppy.

Happy 4th of July to you and your family
