Hospitality

What does the Bible have to say about hospitality?

Are you a good hostess, do you enjoy having people in your home?

Would you agree that hospitality is a gift?

Yes. It is a gift.

Apparently family/friends believe I'm a good hostess but it is NOT my gift. Having people in my home (even family) makes me crazy. I like for everything to be perfect so I need time to prepare my house and myself. I'm convinced that that's a pride-issue.

And I don't do well with more than two other people. Crowds frazzle me...and a crowd is what I've been having for almost 4 wks.!! I miss them all terribly, but I'm all out of hospitality....and food. :~)

I think it's a common characteristic...don't we all like to go to other peoples homes and enjoy them *there*? :~)

Well, I have this other little group, Occasions so that is a big hint. I love to entertain. Yes, I do love to be invited over, it does not happen often when you are a widow. Not feeling sorry for myself, just the facts.

I love to have people, plan parties and menues. Decorate, come up with themes. It is a gift, and sometimes an obsession. I get carried away. I don't have to do perfect anymore, my health won't let me and I would rather have people than perfect.

I feel sorry for anyone and everyone who says I am too busy, but that is a whole other lesson.

I guess, the most important welcome mat is the one to your heart. If you love people that's what counts. Time is a gift.

I have to agree with jatfla. I really don't mind being a hostess, but if things aren't just the way I like them then I get stressed. I get flustered if I don't have all my preparations complete an hour before. If I have a group of people I make sure my daughters or my husband helps me out, they usually know how I like things done or where to find what I need. I'm doing better in my old age...letting guests help out, but it's not easy. That is something I need to do better at.

Auntdent and I are on the same page. (I'm glad I'm not alone!)

I like to *plan* a lunch for 2-3 ladies from Church. I spend the previous day getting the living room, dining room, kitchen, porch in order & plan the lunch meal. Then the next day is cooking and laying everything out so that it's all hot (or cold) when they arrived. If it's not just right (or they arrive too soon), I'm stressed.

Sis...I love hostesses like you. You are a gift to people like me. :~)
