my mother named three of her girls first names after the movie stars of her days that she was enamored with.
vivian= vivien leigh
paulette=paulette goddard
veronica=veronica lake
gwendolyn=?
lynnette=?
i was the only one who did not have a middle name. i guess my name was strong enough to stand alone and i liked it and also found out i was named after her favorite aunt.
i planted french names on my girls, yvette(after a baby sister that died) and rochelle(after raquel welch), so i like naming them after family members are someone i admired. i know in the jewish faith in my days my friends told me it was a tradition to name a child after someone who was deceased. i have noticed in a friends family all the children are named after living people in the family, maybe it has something to do with IMMORTALITY.
Ive never cared one way or the other for my name Laura. I do like Jane which is my middle name.
I took alot of time thinking about the names for my daughters. My first born i named Danielle Rose her dads name is Daniel and i was reading a novel by the author Danielle Steel at the time and it just seemed to fit.
My second baby I named Alexandra Jane Michaeline. Alexandra after Alexander the Great, Jane for me and Michaeline because she was born on my brothers birthday and that is his middle name.
My third daughter i named Gabrielle Justine. Gabrielle after the Angel Gabriel and Justine after my other brother Justin.
My fourth daughter is Reina Isabelle. Her daddy is Puerto Rican and i wanted a name that fit her heritage but also fit in with mine which is English. Reina means Queen and Isabelle is spanish for Elizabeth. And one of my favorite English monarchs is Elizabeth the first of England. So she is Queen Elizabeth. And boy does she KNOW IT!
I wanted strong names for my girls.
to add i named my son after his father but changed his middle name so that he would not be called junior.
Oh, golly ,no. My first name is very old fashioned, and it was old-fashioned when I was born, but I was named after my grandmother, who died shortly after I was born.
Marti is my real name....that is, my real nickname that I have used ever since preschool. But my legal name I never use. However, much to my surprise, I find that here in Mexico, my legal, old-fashioned name is very much in fashion! Who knew!
My given name is Lonna Gaye. I like it but the only problem that I have is that no one ever pronounces it correctly. It sounds like Donna with an L. As for my childrens names: Robert Martin after my dad & husband first names, Michael David-mama gave him the first name & his middle after my dad's middle name, John Matthew was named by our oldest son and finally Leanna Joy-first name after my mother-in-laws middle name and Joy because she wasn't another boy!!

My mother named me after a hooker in the movie From Here To Eternity, Loreen. I never use it, my family shorten it to Lori. My middle name is Darcel and I have no idea where that came from.

My mom named me after the actress Sue Anne Langdon, why I'll never know. I've never had a problem with it.
My first daughter is Leslee Dean (Leslee for a childhood friend of mine and Dean is her paternal grandmother's maiden name). #2 daughter is Sara Louise (Sara for my paternal grandmother and Louise for her dad's grandmother). #3 is Claire Elaine. Before she was born her dad and I and 2 sisters put favorite names in a hat and we would pull one out and vote on it. Claire won. I wanted Julia! She did not have a middle name until we were asked by the nurse in the hospital what to put on her birth certificate.
My given name is Nancy Gayle. I've always been called Gayle because my older brother's name is Gary. We were close enough in age(2 yrs) that people thought that we were twins.
I like both my names, but hate being called by my middle name. On legal things(such as medical insurance) I'm Nancy G. Every time the new school year started, I had to ask the teacher to call me Gayle.
Gary and me
Only on legal things is my real name used, I hate it. I have been Kitty to everyone for so long that friends that I've had since grade school still don't know my real name. My son is Lucas after my step father. His middle name is Nelson after a great-great grandfather in my husband's family. My mother-in-law was so nasty after my daughter was born, insisting that she be named after someone in my husband's family. The choices were Mabel, Maude, Hazel, Phyllis, Blanch and Avanell...noway! My husband brought a baby name book into the hospital and we listed names that neither of us knew anyone with that name. My son (Lucas) pulled the name Audra out of an unused pink bedpan. Her middle name is Lorraine after a childhood friend that died of polio.
