Beautiful Ireland

Hi all

Just got back from lovely Ireland. My travel bud was the best...independent and very pleasant. We started in Dublin and I love the city. Met some folks and enjoyed the down time with them...Brits are the best. Its very easy to get around. The Dart goes from southern coast (Irish Sea) to Northern Coast. You can catch the train to northern and southeastern parts from the Dart. We took the train from Dublin to Galway, which leaves from Heuston Station. There is a tram called the Loas (sp) that connects the Dart to Heuston Station. Trains go all over Ireland. The pubs are the big social part and being the chatty sort, I made tons of friends and acquaintances. People are just ready to be primed a little to start the conversation. Good Guinness and good craic (converstion). We rented a car and traveled through the Gaelteach..(sp) which is the Irish speaking area..Lovely and pretty much unspoiled. Spent my b-day on Inis Mor...lovely island in the No Atlantic. Very unspoiled...good music good guinness and great conversation. The cliffs of Moher and the ring of Kerry are spectacular. We headed back to Dublin and spent the night in a small town and met some local folks...did a pub crawl and were the only outsiders around. Pub that also sold groceries...what a find. Met the flute champ of Tipperary and heard some lovely "trad" music. To top it off, we saw Eric Clapton at Malahyde Castle. The only bummer was coming back...but considering I spent all my cash, it was time. I'd go again in a heartbeat. Lovely people, country. Another 10 vacation.

Travel well y'all

I think the Irish make you feel you've "come home," no matter what your nationality. I liked everything about both North and South Ireland. Did you ntry the potato bread?

Thanks for the welcome back. I didn't try the potato bread...well maybe I did and didn't know it. Perhaps next time I'll get to travel north. I'd love to see Donegal. Actually I'd like to plant myself somewhere small and lovely and get to know the people a little more.
