I survived.
I survived.
Yup, I drove over the mountain to Halfway and picked John up. He had some women who wanted to go with us, so we stopped off at the "Stockman," (the local watering hole,) where the bar gave me a giant snifter glass of beer for my birthday drink, I think that thing held about half a gallon of beer, I swear!
Getting past that challenge, two more mugs of beer suddenly materialized before me, nice gestures from some customers.
After a bit John and I made good our excape, and off to the mountain we went, the gal's never showed up, so we just batched it.
We drove up the mountains to the north, the lower slopes were full of cattle out on some sort of free range program they have here. About 1/3 the way up the mountain we started to see a lot of deer, one doe on the edge of the road kept flickering her tail and making a walking limp to katch our attention, no more than 6' from the road was a new fawn curled up trying to look invisable.
John caught some trout on our way in a few streams we crossed along our way. We also found 10 lbs. of calliflower mushrooms.
We was able to get within a mile of Fish Lake and had to turn back around because of drifted snow across the road.
After turning around and heading back down hill the shifting forks in my trucks transmission fouled up and ground against all the gears with the exception to first gear.
The run off the mountain was with a full clutch, yup, I coasted all the way off the mountain, and only had to enguage the tranny about 3 miles outside of Halfway. There was a few times John leaned out his window and began screaming to me to get over, seems he couldn't see any road on his side of the truck!
Instead of more fun and festivities with John in Halfway, I let John and his fish off and I drove my truck over the mountain, (to the south,) home to Richland.
It took an hour to get home, and my truck made it all the way in granny low.
I made my own supper, fried sausage, hashbrowns, and fresh mountain mushrooms fried in butter, and finely diced onion.
I had a great birthday, and I want to thank tou for all the best wishes and blessings you sent my way.
So my truck put the kybosh to our plans, I can't blame the truck, geesh it's a 81 Dodge, I think my truck has done very good for me! So I didn't get a big fancy birthday supper, we already had a fun time, and if I was going to do more partying I was going to do it at home!
I nearly forgot to mention, just right after I got home a neighbor (Bob) gave me a birthday gift of a 2 lb. bass, oh I have to clean it too.
I had a good birthday.
