"When I have a little money I buy books...
If any is left, I buy food and clothes".
Hello, to everyone in the group
Is there room on that comfy looking sofa for one more voracious ( albeit discriminating) reader?
I am currently reading, The Saffron Kitchen, about an Iranian woman and her Anglo-Iranian daughter. It is an excellent first novel - beautifully descriptive, demonstrating a wonderful gift for narrative and language.
It is one of those books that will keep happily reading- hoping it will always have just "one more page"!
The author is Yasmin Crowther.
Recently read, Water for Elephants, by Sarah Gruen. A complex and lovely novel dealing with ethics, romance, aging and the need for each of us to hold fast to our own individual dream...no matter how bizarre it may seem to others.
Much of the story takes place in a circus environment...hence the elephant. Don't be put-off by thinking..."I'm not a big fan of circuses". Although there is much that is gritty and definitely dark, it is, altogether triumphant when taken as a whole.
