Screen resolution

I have wiped out the drive on my computer and reloaded Windows XP. Not I cannot set the screen resolution to anything but 640X 480. Everything is too big for the screen. The slider that gives you the option of resetting the resolution will not move. I also only have 16 bit color. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem.
Thank you.

suggest you reload XP.

either that or delete the existing 'display adapters' and 'monitors' then let XP find and install appropriate ones at restart

Yeah, John is known for being succinct, but he is choosing the path of least resistance.

If you have a disk that came with your computer that contains drivers, you will probably find a video driver among them--try that first if you have such a disk. It looks like that the reformat did not pick up your assumed plug and play video driver.

To everyone that replied to my message, thanks. I had already reinstalled XP three times. But I did update from the xp disc the video driver and it fixed my problem.
Thanks again
