It sounds crazy and I thank God we don't do that here. Having said that, I remember a sociology professor I had in college who was from Pakistan. They had arranged marriages there and he explained the thinking like this. You don't pick your mother, father, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, cousins etc. You learn to love them, so why is it so hard to imagine loving a wife/husband who was picked for you. Sex is not considered until they become of age. What age that is, I don't know, but that is not at issue.
I don't agree with this and I think our way is better. So please ladies those of you who are so inclined, put down the baseball bat and just think about it in a different way.

my grandpa & grandma's families from Sicily arranged their marriage. It lasted, but I don't think it's fair to do that sort of thing.

Thanks Mich I was going to say the same thing. Us modern women would not go for it but can we say that we do any better? Many arranged marriages went very well for many years. Its still the custom in a lot of countries and if its your tradition then I see nothing wrong with it.
As to the age for sex, that was usually after the first menses.....again if thats the tradition then its up to them. Do I like the idea?....no but I dont condemn those who do simply because what have we got to show for it thats better? Divorces? unwed mothers, abortion?
So.....if it works for them, let them be.
