developements

so its my turn to post wpmo. whats with these condo builders, or postage stamp house builders, that have no regard for either the environment or the town. they build and build, but the roads remain the same size, and the schools remain the same size. there is no regard, or assistance in increasing these needs. and then they push the wildlife into the last few vestiges of forest, with no regard to what that does.

i had 30 chickens, i have 5 now. but coons, bears, and even mountain lions, en mass. i have lost goats, sheep, and various other critters. i cant walk up my own driveway anymore for fear of being attacked by some lost wild animal. (it has happened here just lately). forget fences that aren't cast iron, and fully electrified.

then go into the new residents of these condo's and houses, who have no regard for keep out signs. they actually walk right into my yard and take the mators off the vine, thru the now locked fence. and wonder why im pissed. we have found them swimming in our pond, leaving their garbage behind, for yet another wild animal to be attracted. not to mention the insurance premiums that i have to keep increasing let one of them sue us, while they are trespassing on our land. i looked off my deck onto the pond yesterday, and was blessed to see a couple, well coupling. get a room damit. i dont wanna see that on my own land. if i did, it would be me.

and waking up to 20 motorcycles buzzing past my house, with kids on them, not yet 16. "hell its the country, i can do what i want." i dont see any of them cleaning up the tracks they cut into my forest. or returning the last of the baby birds to the nest they knocked over.

but scream, o yeah. they can do that. we want services. fire service, ambulance service, pot holes fixed right away. why arent there more cops? yada yada. why are there 40 kids in every classroom, this is the country, they should have all this. our fire, ambulance and somewhat police force are VOLUNTEERS. i find it some nerve to rag on them for not supplying the services your shouldnt get anyway.

and then, the drugs, drunk drivers, meth labs, yes meth labs, blew up an entire condo behind us. blew out all my windows, over a mile away. who gets to pay for that? the builder, the owners, the town, nooooooooooooo me.

ok rant over
thanx

I feel for you, and another bad thing is that in the case of most new houses, they are built, bought and then up for sale in a matter of months, sometimes less. I live in the "boonies" and a couple of years ago they cleared all the woods directly across the dirt road in front of us, built a huge house there..Now it sits there with a for sale sign on..Tees me off that instead of looking at woods when I sit on the front porch, I am now looking at a fancy big empty house..I hate growth..Not enough water to go around now and they just keep on building all while yelling save the earth...don't make sense..and no matter how many POSTED signs we put up, we still have people in the back shooting at the deer.

I understand where you're coming from on this. A few years ago, I had a pasture fence that was adjacent to a popular brook where people liked to fish for trout. Rather than park their vehicles down the road and walk to the brook, they would simply climb the fence (breaking the rails in the process)and continue on their way. After repeatedly repairing the fence, we had to give up on the effort and expense it took to maintain what was ours, and the pasture went to waste. I have deer hunters who seem to think that my driveway is here for their convenience. Regardless of the no trespassing signs that are posted, they park at the end of my long driveway and walk into the woods, leaving their vehicles there for hours. Apparently, it doesn't occur to them to ask for permission, or they know they wouldn't receive it. I also have the dirt-bikers riding through here all the time, knowing that they can't be caught, and daring anyone to try. When I was a kid, I would have been whomped on the butt for such a display of disrespect to someone's property, but by today's standards, anything seems to be OK.

OMG i forgot about the hunters. but they have been a problem long before the condo's. i actually have the developments to thank for that one. now that the land is shrinking, they dont come around as much.

i sure can feel for the person with the long driveway. that happened to me only once. i drove down and told them to move, thats our only access. they laughed at me. well this little lady owns an old jeep wrangler, that has seen many a dent in time. they owned, what was once a nice new truck. yeah, plowed right thru it. there it sat, in the road, no longer my problem. then they pulled down their guns. funny thing about farmers, we have them tooooo. i pointed to their bashed truck and dared them to pull the trigger, i believe i said something like, lets see how many bullets it takes to kill a bunch of hunters. something totally stupid, ya had to be there. all those big he-men, and me, by myself at 5am. total clint eastwood moment. they left. word traveled, no one ever parked on my driveway again.

i bet that moment is coming again though.

You have my sympathy. 25 years ago I moved to the country. now I live too damn close to the suburbs. and I haven't moved. and we have the ladies committees that come around and tell us to clean up our property. the value of my property is not monetary, it is to do what I want with. here's a hint, if you don't want to live next to a pig farm, don't buy land next to a pig farm. I'm actually a peaceful ole hippy, but if these people want to see me as the crazy old man with a shotgun, ok. no one bothers me

thing is i did move next to a cow farm. it moved away and grew condo's. when we moved out here, it took me 30 minutes to find a phone booth. and the operators name was bertha, and she knew everyone. we got cable 10 years ago. and my dad gave up his rotary phone around that time as well.

the only noise we heard was the cows coming home. and the only trespassers were those very same cows, eating the front lawn. ill take that back anyday, to the walmart that started all this destruction.

lol red. I have a sign at the bottom of my drive, PRIVATE DRIVE..KEEP OUT...then another on a tree in front yard that says BEWARE OF DOG. (I have NO dog..) I have had a Jehovah Witness call and leave me a message twice telling me she wants to visit but saw the beware of dog sign and is afraid to come up here...It's like she has not noticed the Keep Out sign, and is more worried about a dog bite..

You mentioned a volunteer police department. I can't imagine how that works. Do you have a zoning board or a planning board?
