I think this is an interesting topic. They say that everyone dreams every night. However, I will very rarely remember a dream when I wake up. Sometimes I'll wake up and be aware that I WAS dreaming but don't have a clue what about. Other times there's no hint of dreams.
I dream a lot and sometimes it scares the Hell out of me . There have been times my dreams become true at a later date . I also have nighmares . I have woke myself up screaming before .
I read once somewhere that the function of dreams was to compensate for those parts of the personalities that are underdeveloped when we are awake.
Of course that might have been Freud, I think, maybe I was dreaming that I read it. Am I awake now?

Ok, I had to go see if I was dreaming, it wasn't Freud, it was Carl Jung..damn now I know I was sleeping.

Was Carl Jung ever correct about anything? But at least it got you to do the research. Maybe he was a little better than Freud though sometimes I wonder when I compare the two.
I still want to know why a person remember recurring dreams and not the other kind... free floating anxieties of the day.
Dreams...if someone has a true answer to this it would be great. Lately I have had the strangest dreams. Severel different sessions a night, different dreams, but similar, but different content...wait...that sounds stranger than I thought. (scratchin' head)....I wake up many times a night, after a dreaming session, thinking it is true/real/happening, and it takes a minute to realize it isn't. Many of them are very scarey. My heart fells as if it will jump out of my chest...I'm thinking, because I am considering something very scarey in my life right now, that my dreams are acting it out...in symbols. Or, maybe I'm just dreaming now...

MelM those are the free floating anxieties of your actual life. You have a hard decision to make and your subconscious it showing you the alternatives, pros and cons. Yes, you need to talk it over with some professional who can counsel you - possibly your priest in your case..You are not going wacky so don't get scared.

Yes I did have to go back to find the source of my recollection. I am not sure where I pulled that quote from, God I have to stop reading so much.
Our brains are in constant activity. We are always in different states of consciousness, we might be awake, or asleep, alert or drowsy, even excitement, bored, concentrating or daydreaming cause different brain wave activity. If we are in a light sleep we may be more aware of our surroundings and still be very much asleep. Different levels of sleep will allow us to associate our dreams with a noise, a scent from an experience that occurred even years earlier. We may remember one dream because we were in a partial state of sleep or because of a certain smell....
really I could be full of crap.
