Anyone who does science reading knows that quantum physics seems to indicate multiple 'dimensions'. In trying to find a 'theory of everything' string theory has been offered as the solution...only string theory suggests there are multiple layers to reality too. And for some reason, many scientists are resistant to the idea of more than one dimension. So they are in quite a state over it. i suppose they might find something like that more palatable than accepting an immortal soul that reincarnates repeatedly.
i know of at least one psychologist, Dr. Edith Fiore, who finally figured out that the objective reality did not matter as much as how much good it did her patients when she and they behaved 'as if' reincarnation is real. i personally believe in reincarnation, but my dd and i have discussed the possibility that it works because once a person has a 'reason' (even from something as 'outlandish' as a past life) for their fears they don't feel as irrational for having them and ironically that might allow them to let go of the fear, just as regressing someone to a current life trauma does...because something in us wants to name, categorize and pidgeonhole things...doing so gives us the illusion at least of understanding them.
This is an interesting topic.
Maybe that's why the "other" group keeps jacking our topics...
Just as they did with the Psychic Kids post!
i've had time to at least skim read the article now, and it leaves me with more respect for Dr. Oz. As he says, what does it matter what you call something if it actually helps people?
Clair...they do say immitation is a form of flattery.
From personal experience and observations of others' i know that retrieving past life memories does help tremendously with phobias and with understanding complicated relationships.
I have found that it's very hard to find someone reputable (i.e. a certified psychologist or psychiatrist) to do past life regression. Most of them in this area think it's all hokum.
I would really like to find one. It would be an interesting project for me as an anthropologist would be to get a group (one at a time) to regress and find out some of the things that have happened to ordinary people in the distant past. I'd also like to know if they (the subjects) could get as far back as Atlantis. Dodie
I was fortunate enough to hear Dr. Brian Weiss speak in person a few years ago. He did a 'mini' group regression, which was really cool. I usually don't respond well to those sorts of things, but was not frightened at all and went back to the time just before and during my birth ( during this lifetime) Made a believer out of me. His books are a great start, and he has materials you can order to help with your own regressions. He also lists professionals to contact.

Another interesting idea in physics is that with each decision the universe splits into as many new paths as there were possible decisions -- any decision, from which direction an electron goes to whether or not to bomb Iran. If that is the case, is it possible that we retain some sort of connection to our other selves who made decisions different than the one we made and that phobias are caused by our other self being damaged in some way, or even killed, by the object of our phobia?
Just a thought. It only occurred to me just now.
I sometimes believe in reincarnation and sometimes don't. I've been regressed but wasn't convinced that I wasn't making it up as I went along. Anyway, assuming that there is an immortal spirit and that we are to attain some sort of perfection, reincarnation would make a lot of sense since we can't get anywhere near perfect in one lifetime.
The many worlds theory of Quantum Mechanics works too. We could get together with all of our other selves and pool our knowledge and experience and together make one perfect being. Works for me.
Interesting reply post, MerryMac. Re: each decision splitting into different dimensions: I would think the intensity and frequency of energy we put into each decision, or contemplating it, would alter/create its actual formation on those various dimensions or timelines.
I had tivo'd the Dr. Oz show with Weiss, and was pretty amazed they actually aired it on Oprah. Times are indeed accelerating.
I have worked with my own and others' past lives for awhile now, independently and in a lab with a credentialed individual. Without going into too many of my own specifics, I would venture to say that there is a correlation between present day trauma, be it emotional or physical, and past life occurrence.
What I have found is that the site of the trauma can set up a vortex of negativity which is attractive for the purpose of ultimate healing. For instance, one of my past life injuries was to the sciata/hip joint. Now, when I feel the beginnings of pain of discomfort to that area, I know, because of the lab regression work, that I am doing too much, working too hard, too much emotional input, etc., and I can simply stop and rest. Working too hard in the past life had resulted in an accident to that area, and I don't need to repeat the lesson.
Anyway, it's a fascinating subject, and would seem to be somewhat "proved" (although I don't think this is something that really can or needs to be proved) by the fact of languages non-native to the subject being suddenly available to them under hypnosis/regression work.)
merrymac, what you suggest used to be the stuff of science fiction...now physics is moving in that direction.
skylake, i would say a lot depends on the hypnotist and the subject--as with psychiatric probings (i'm thinking here of the truly 'false memory' cases which make it so difficult for people who truly recover traumatic memories in adulthood), you have to be able to trust that the hypnotist isn't guiding the experience thru their questions. i had to chuckle at your comment about not being convinced you weren't 'making it up'. In the meditative group i belonged to (we used self hypnosis, group meditiation and 'oriented' meditation (which is like hypnosis by another, but the 'subject' always retains 'control' the ability to assess commands and to 'awake' if they choose) it was an axiom that often 'psychic' info felt like you were making it up as you went along. In the psychometry studygroup i mentioned in the 'Spiritualist Q & A' thread, this was part of what we were trying to 'control': mundane knowledge providing good 'guesses'. The accuracy and detailed, specific nature of many of the responses when there was no way to know who you were 'reading' till after made us more sure of our abilities.
Anybody who is a psychic knows about the “many” levels of dimensions.
Why do you think it’s so hard to signify sometimes what is happening? And bring it into a 3 dimensional world?
Like mom use to say “it’s hard to solidity it!”
I taped the show but haven't watched it yet. This was part 2, I believe. I was glad to see this topic on Oprah because it reaches so many millions. I love Dr. Oz. I respect him as a physician and as a great human being. He may have helped bring credibility to this subject for those who are skeptical. One of my dearest friends is Italian. She and a friend were regressed and she says she saw herself as a little Black girl with pigtails. That has affected her intolerance for prejudices tremendously. I personally believe because I've heard of children who know things they couldn't possibly know or who are prodigies. What about the little girl who knew every thing about a town in India I believe it was, she kept talking about it. When her parents took her there, everything was just as she described it. In fact I think someone said there was a woman with a similar story on Oprah so this might be the same person. Also, what about feeling strongly that you were with someone (you know now) in a previous life?
