Caregivers for Elderly Parents

I would like you to stop by this group if you are a caregiver for your parents. First of all - thank you...it is not easy and not everyone realizes how hard it is.

This site is where people that are taking care of their elderly and aging parents come to share problems, get ideas, vent frustrations, find out how to keep dealing with elderly anger, depression, mental and sometimes physical abuse from your loved ones while you are repaying the debt of love and care they gave you.

Stop by!

You are right! It's very very hard. We built a room on our house 5 years ago for mom and dad. I had been caring for dad across town for several years and it had become too hard going back and forth several times a day. We didn't realize that mom's inability to help care for him was due to early alzteimers. Dad passed away 3 years ago and mom is now in the 3rd stage of alzteimers. Also at the same time dad was getting really bad my husband's problems became much worse. He is diabetic, has copd (on 4 liters of oxygen now),parkinsons, conjestive heart, very overy weight and is bipolar. I have had to quit work which really puts a strain on our money. I think there should be a program for caregivers to help out when we want to keep them at home. Now I have developed severe back problems myself. The bible says God will not give us more than we can handle so I keep the faith and thats what keeps me going. Anyone have any tips relating to my post? I am thinking of seeing about a some kind of day care for mom a couple of days a week. She does not like the idea as she is very, very dependent on me, but I think she might get used to it. She has pretty much forgotten the rest of the family unless they are right here. She is phyically very healthy and gets around well (Although she does not know where she is going). Not wandering yet, but I am watching her closely. I know I am not the only one with these problems but it sure seems like it sometimes. Thanks for letting me vent.
