My ordeal

Well, I'm on a merry go round with Doubleday Book club large print. I don't really need the large print but I lost my bi focals. Have been a member for years & ready to drop it.

I notified them about the poor quality of a book, The Lucky One, as the print was terrible. I remember when I used to go in the bookstores, I'd be turned off on a book as soon as I seen the print type.

Well, they told me they would send a postage paid label to return this book. Then, I received an e mail from them telling me to throw the book away & they would send me another copy! I contacted them & told them NOT to send another copy & to refund my money.

I also cancelled an order for 2 other books. I have found the large print easier to read, faster, easy on the eyes, etc. Hate to cancel my membership but I have no idea where else to go for large print books. I did find 2 books as used copies but in good condition through Barnes & Noble so only time will tell how long I put up with Doubleday.

Rainy day

Good morning, well it has been raining slowly all afternoon and through the night, supposed to stop sometime today. My granddaughter's softball game wasn't yesterday afterall, will be this afternoon if it stops raining in time. My son in Kansas called to tell me he saw on another web site that someone in Belton had some left over yard sale things to give away. So I went over, most of it was already gone, but did get 2 kitchen chairs. I knew that my sis in Colorado is short on kitchen chairs and could use them. Now I'll just haul them around with me until I go out there again; unless I need the space in my p.u.. In that case I can unload them then load again. Don't want to store them around here because I expect to be in a hurry when I go out again and don't want to forget the chairs. Other than that there wasn't anything that interested me. Love ya, Virgiia

I think I can, I know I can

Having a disability is never fair
But discrimination will always be there
Why do people never care?
And treat us like we're just not there?

We fight for our rights day and night
But just how long can we sail that kite?
If people didn't chase us away
Then disabilities wouldn't hold such sway

Services are there by law
But just how much are they flawed?
If you took the time to listen to us
Then we wouldn't have to fuss

Giving up can pull you back.
But persevering will keep you on track
Disabilities aren't always fair, but
Fight for yourself and don't despair

i just stood out in the rain holding signs for obama again. i was bitten by those damn mosquitoes. i have been working for the man for over 1 1/2 years. 112 degree weather, rain, wind, cold, mosquitoes.... so i'm asking you to get out and register and then vote.
(the following has the 'f' word in it and if that's what it takes to get people's attention, then so be it. we've gotten 'f'ed for 8 years. ENOUGH, i say, ENOUGH.)

Tempeh & Vegetables with Pomegranate Glaze

Tempeh & Vegetables with Pomegranate Glaze
Serves 4

This colorful dish features the exotic flavors of pomegranate juice and seeds and pistachio nuts.

1/4 cup low-sodium tamari
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons chili-garlic sauce
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon canola or grapeseed oil
6 large white mushrooms, trimmed and quartered
1 clove garlic, minced
1 red or yellow pepper, cut into 1/2-inch chunks

1 small zucchini, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
2 carrots, cut into 1/2-inch chunks
1 head broccoli cut into 1/2-inch chunks
8 ounces of tempeh, cut into 24 cubes
3 scallions, sliced

1/4 cup shelled, unsalted pistachio nuts, roughly chopped

Seeds of 1 pomegranate

Combine tamari, pomegranate juice, vinegar, water, chili sauce, and honey. Whisk, then add cornstarch, whisking again to incorporate. Set glaze aside.

Heat oil in a large sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms. Leave mushrooms alone for 1 to 2 minutes in the pan so they brown.

Add garlic and sauté for another minute, being careful not to burn it. Add vegetables (except for scallions), and sauté for another 3 to 4 minutes. Add tempeh and sauté 1 minute.

Pour glaze over mixture, turn down heat, and cover. Allow mixture to steam for 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the lid and add more water, if necessary, to thin out the thickened glaze.

Serve over udon noodles, whole wheat linguine, or brown rice. Garnish with scallions, pistachio nuts, and pomegranate seeds.
