My kids never had one in school or anywhere else for that matter...I figured if they got sick or whatever they could go to the office and call me. JMO but giving a kid a cell phone is stupid. I know there are others who will disagree but think about it, we all did fine without them, yes, the world is a worse place now but they still have phones in school for the kids to use if needed. Now once a kid is driving, I think they should have one incase of breakdowns, etc...My step grand-daughter had one at age 9 which was the stupidest thing I ever heard of. Now her little sister just turned 6 and already has her own..Call it whatever, I call it spoilt brats...
I don't remember cell phones being around when my children were growing up. Now that have one and I don't!
The grandbabies are just babies (6 &2), although the kindergardner had a friend in class who had one?????????? I don't get it.
My kids didn't have them so why do elementary kids need them now? I have 4 grandsons. The two 13 year olds have had them for a few years. One of the 7 year olds just got one and I argued with his Mom to no avail. The only thing good about it is he could care less. He wanted it so bad, then he got it and never has it with him. He doesn't use it at home either unless he calls me or his other grandmother. Usually he calls me on the house phone. So... wonder how much is the kids doing and how much is the parents?
Our granddaughter is only 3 years old. I hope we don't have to worry for several years.
The difference is when we were children there were pay phones on every cornor. My 18 yr old has had a prepaid for a year now. She was in alot of after school activies. So when the bus took them back to school, all they could do was go to thier lockers the rest of the school was locked up. There is no pay phone in lobby anymore. So if she came back on hour early there was no way to let us know.
Remember when you got lost trying to find an address you could stop at the cornor pay phone & call. Try to find one now. Now you can get turn by turn directions while you talk to them.
They don't need a cell phone until thier at least in high school, 16yr.
My grandson has had one for five years now. i got it when he was 14 and started his first summer job so that I would know if he had to stay late.In school they cant use them unless it is an emergency,at least thats how it is in Ny.I really got it because on 9/11 for 2-3 hours I did not know where he was. And as the lady said before in nyc you have to searchy and search just to find a payphone and most of them are not working.Think payphones are bad now he is asking for a laptop computer lol
