Tomato Plants

Hello, I'm new to the group and I have a question about Tomato Plants.

This is the first garden I have had in many years. My plants are all in big flowerpots, not in the ground. My tomato plants have lots of little yellow flowers on them, but the blooms are not turning into tomatoes. One plant has one tomato, but no other blooms. I planted them at the same time.

Is there somthing I should be doing to help these plants start growing tomatoes instead of flowers??????

Mine are not producing many tomatoes yet either, but for me it is because it just isn't hot enough with a lot of sunny days yet.

The flowers will turn to tomatoes, just give them a little more time. :)

If your not sure if the bees are pollenating your tomatoes, take a q-tip and gently dab one flower and then the next and so on. that should up your tomato yeild. If the weather has been cold and rainy they are just wanting more heat. I don't think this year will be a very good one for crops in a lot of places.

Thanks for the information. I went out and tried the q-tip trick today. Hopefully it will help.

First, let me tell you I am a novice with gardening. The q-tip dab on the tomato plant's little yellow flowers, does that replace/substitute for the pollination done by bees?

My lettuce is doing great. I eat some of it almost every night.

My first harvest of radishes was really good too, but the second seeds I planted have not done well at all. The tops just grew really big with no radishes. Just little red stems.

I hope my tomatoes do as well as my lettuce. The one tomato I have looks like it has stopped growing.

I don't know if it was the cross pollenation with those q-tips or what, but I now have quite a few tomatoes growing on my vine. I can't wait to get all those tomatoes ripe enough to eat. Since I like Fried Green Tomatoes, some of them may not make it that far....LOL

My tomatoes are getting bigger all the time. I also have a lot more blooms. I have some beans on my green bean plants as well.

Thanks again for the tips.

My tomatoes are doing great! I have many many blooms and some few tiny tomatoes!
I was waiting to see if I had to pollinate mine too! I haven't seen any honeybees since I moved here, but they are here! Yeah! Tomatoes wouldn't be bad, but pollinating all that squash would have been a bummer to keep up with. Bad knees make gardening a great challenge. It will take time and $ to make raised gardens.

My garden is up on concrete blocks with strips of wood on top. A friend knew I could not have a garden in the ground because I can't do the bending or get up off the ground, so they gave me some plastic flower boxes. They did the heavy work getting it set up, so all I have to do is check on it daily and water it. It takes me about 15 minutes a day.

I get lettuce daily, have had some luck with my raddishes, have green beans, lots of tomatoes growing but not much luck with my squach plants so far.
