Post Your Questions - Help

Several months ago I joined this group thinking there would be a tremendous number of questions, how to's, and "please help with..." I've noted a lot of members have mentioned they are very interested and have limited knowledge about CSS, but I haven't seen any questions posted.

So, let's get the ball rolling.
Do you know how to create columns using CSS?
Can you create a complex design using only CSS that is rendered the same in 'all' browsers and W3C compliant?
If you are designing, do you design for yourself, or do you design for income?

As a Web engineer myself I have no other source of income. Making things 'work' for a client is my profession. There is always more than one way to engineer something. But, as long as it works in all browsers and is W3C compliant, it doesn't really matter that it wasn't the same as someone else suggested.

Providing snippets of code 'can' work in some instances. However, unless the actual page is reviewed it's not always possible to provide the code that is "just right" for what you are attempting.

I hope you all join in and answer the questions and come up with some of your own.
If there are members interested in database driven/dynamic Web sites I work with those as well. Zen Cart is a wonderful program (open source/free) that creates dynamic pages and is nearly 100% CSS. There are a few tables, but only in certain instances. For the most part the program uses only CSS for design.

Thoughts? Questions?

Hi WebGuyTom,

I de-tabled the front page of my humor site some time ago and have never gotten the max-width to work at all in any browser (I know it doesn't work in IE6). I've set the max-width on the rest of my pages, with tables, to 1280 and it works fine. The pages on my site are fluid and expand or contract depending on the visitor's screen resolution. I've checked my home page up to 1600 wide and it still looks OK so this is no big emergency, but it's always irritated me that I can't set the width. I'd really like to know how to do this for future projects (and maybe some current ones).

Thanks,
Blair

P.S. I'm changing my football-related site over to a Joomla CMS template and that has been quite challenging but I've about got it whipped. Not familiar with Zen Cart, but I'll take a look at it.
