Finally, someone who understands what we older folks go through looking for employment. You're right. Employers just don't want to hire us. They are fine with us on the phone, but when they see us, they say that we're under or over qualified or some other reason.
Yes. I have thought of having my own business many times. As a matter of fact, I've tried MLM more than once. It was never very beneficial. And I've been with some of the top companies. If you don't know people, there just isn't much of a way to build a business.
What I do, a lot of times, is to sell things, on craigslist, I find for free or that people give me. This has helped us out many times, but it's not a living. When I get the funds, I'm going for gifting. I found a great program for it, and I've checked out all the ins and outs and legalities of it. I've learned that it is the way to go for fast easy income that keeps coming in. There is another business I'm interested in, but I will have to talk to the owner.
I'm inventive also. I have some great ideas for inventions. I'm not sure what to do with that yet.
As it is, I'm married and haven't worked out of our home for over three years now. I'd like to see what others here are doing or have come up with for their income.
I'm in the process of doing it too. Now that I have climbed over the big mountain of FEAR I am quite excited.
Thanks to so much support from my friends and family and even from strangers and new eons aquantices, I am on my way.
Blessings
Hi starrybright, and everyone else,
Your comment about FEAR made me think of the old saying, we as humans are motivated by 2 thing FEAR and DESIRE!! Hope that you find the desire in your new business very quickly. I for one, and I imagine most of us have had to stare that FEAR in the eyes, many, many times!!
Believe in your DREAM,

Penright,
Please do your research on gifting. If you participate in any kind of gifting circle, gifting club, or other organized gifting program with the idea of getting money back, you'll be promoting a Ponzi scheme or pyramid plan, no matter how legal you were told it is.
The "quid pro quo" or expecting something in returns, negates the idea of it being a gift. Participating in and promoting any gifting program in a felony crime in the United States and most other countries where they have tried to operate.
You may have received literature stating that some lawyer found where it was legal, but I assure you, it's not.
And, even the possibility of you getting a big return depends on all the people who follow you into the program filling the circle, slots, or whatever before you get your payoff. The odds are that the starter and one or two other individuals will receive money from the program, but it will likely -
a..Collapse before you receive a dime, as most pyramid plans do
or
b. Be stopped when the Fed or State AG steps in and seizes all the money.
There's a simple test used to determine if any money-making scheme is a pyramid or not - If no product is involved and money is changing hands with the intent of getting more in return, IT'S a Pyramid!
If you promote it online, the archived internet files will remain for years, enabling the FTC to track participants.
If it is promoted through the US Mail, you are compounding the crime, by violating US Code which prohibits using the US Postal Service for such activities.
The Better Business Bureau and your local Post Office, should have a brochure you can get that will cover the illegality of gifting programs, if you don't accept my warning.
Please reconsider your participation, as any money you put in will likely be lost, and if you receive any in return, you could be in worse troubles than you are now.
GenPlus,
Congratulations on your decision. I know it's something you've been considering for some time. Hope it pays off well for you.
I apologize for hijacking your post, but wanted to get a quick warning out to Penright and anyone else considering joining an illegal gifting program.

Janet, I really hope you don't have to go thru what usn's 55
and older have had to go thru. When you reach that 55 years
old, nobody looks at your exp, just age.
So what did/am I doing. I am creting a website(almost done)
about my background in finance/accounting. Since with 15
years exp that doesn't qualify me to teach, I have written
a booklet on the basics of accounting for the business owner.
Some of what I have written is not covered in school, which
I feel is unfortunite. I feel based on my years in the accounting office that bad accounting produces a stagant/very little growth company that may/will hit snags in the road.
