and he didn't get a permit in the first place!
Tell them to file a complaint against his license.. If he has a license.
they will after it's done. They're worried they'll lose what money they already have in it if they do it too soon.
Why are they even continuing to deal with this guy ? why are they throwing good money after bad ? fire his ass now, bring him up on charges andget aand get a good licensed contractor
I absolutely hate it when I hear stories like this, someone taking advantage of older folks. As soon as the work is (finally) done, they should take out an ad in the paper and let everyone in town know what a slug this guy is. Stupid too, because if he'd done it right to start with, he would have been done by now and on to other jobs.
It's a sad state of affairs that there are unscrupulous jerks out there who go after the fast, easy bucks at the expense of those most vulnerable. And it's becoming more common as our population ages.
When I was selling radio advertising, my sales manager suggested a way to overcome the sales objection that "we rely on word-of-mouth advertising. He said, "When you go to a restaurant and the food is delicious and presented in an attractive manner and the service is excellent, you probably don't mention it to anybody unless they ask. If you go to a restaurant and your order comes to you cold or otherwise prepared badly and the service is bad or nonexistent, you tell everybody you know how lousy that restaurant is. That's word-of-mouth advertising."
Sounds to me like this "contractor" is overdue for some "word-of-mouth advertising."
Like I said, I offered the services of my daughter and I to finish the job to code, with a building permit and an inspection at each stage, they just want to get there money out of this fella. I really care about those folks, but it's there call so at this point all I can do is simmer.
Do you suppose this kind of situation drives people to not trust the small contractors? I think it does, it makes it so folks will never give a kid just starting out (like my daughter) a chance.
I worked for one of those assholes for a while down here. He cut corners everywhere he could to save money. Two faced bastard he was. Only problem I ever experienced financially is that I'd work myself out of a job when working on my own. I'd fix the problem, the people would pay me and then I'd sit by the telephone for two weeks waiting for someone else to call. I don't know. Maybe I haven't advertised enough. Maybe not at all is more to the point. Yeah. Anyway. We built this deck off this ladies' back porch. It was to be 7 meters long and 3.8 meters wide. To span the width of this deck was to be solely 2 by 4 girders perched on a 2 by 6 bearer sitting on
90mm poles screwed into stirrups sitting in concrete holes which I dug and filled with concrete. (I used 8 bags of concrete. This prick suggested I only use 5) Anyway when the job was finished she was not a happy chappy. The deck bounced like a diving board. She got the building licensing board into the scene and I quit his service soon after. He still owes me $410. I keep a can of black spray paint in my truck. If ever I see the bastard I'll use it on his headlights
I guess I'm lucky in one respect JB, I never got hired onto a crew with a boss like that. I worked for a couple of farmers who were tight, but not mean or stupid. They spent the money if they had to, just made a lot of noise while doing it.
