The first thing I look at in a man is his hands. I like big hands with short, clean nails. Having a little tan doesn,t hurt. I cannot stand facial hair of any kind in a man. Also, if they are dirty, have bad breath or BO, thats a deal breaker for me. They must be clean. Looks in general aren,t all that important and I love bald heads!
I would have to say his grooming. I like to see a well groomed man with a close shave, neat haircut and for me, it's all about the smell. I love a good smelling man and that is a big part of the turn on. His eyes are the telling feature and whether he can laugh at himself are also huge turn-ons.
Basic good grooming catches my eye. A smile and some eye contact helps, too. Then run with the situation, because I am not a "modern" gal going to ask you out first!
Ok - the gals beat me to this one! Basic hygene is a must.
what is the greatest turn off is dirty finger nails- What I first look for is his level of self confidence and smile; Ah yes, the smile must reach the eyes and make them twinkle. So when I shake hands or sit across the table from him the next things that holds my attention is the condition of his finger nails.

OK, don't laugh but after having been on 2 different dating websites and receiving lots of messages and e-mails, I'm so sick and tired of guys who can't spell! You wouldn't believe some of the stuff I have been getting, men my age and older who can't formulate a paragraph without several spelling errors, don't know how to punctuate, etc.
I understand not all men can type well, most maybe never did before they got a computer, but there's a limit!

I like them a little scruffy. Not dirty scruffy, just a mustache or a little facial hair. Longish hair is also a bit of a turn-on for me. First thing I notice though is the eyes, the gateway to the soul.
Teenybopper, you are really off the topic - unless you're referring to bad spelling turning you off.
You might consider starting a thread about that!
Bad spelling and bad grammar is not exclusive to men.

The eyes, I always look at the eyes. I have to have a clean man, no bad breath, be clean and smel good. But I like facial hair, just keep it clean and trimmed. I can deal with long hair on a guy, as long as it's clean, neat and out of the way.
TXJingles,
Yes, your right, bad spelling and such is a complete turn off to me. Intelligence is what I am after in a man, first and foremost. Only bywriting back and forth with someone can you find that out.
But you can't judge a book by it's cover. One of the dumbest guys who ever wrote to me was a professor! And one of the smartest was a good old backwoods boy from Kentucky!
