New article on large animal migration
Dr. Bill Newmark of the University of Utah, who is currently lead researcher on Saving the Tarangire Migration: view link has just let us know that his paper, entitled Isolation of African Protected Areas, will be published in the August issue of Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment: view link
The paper discusses the impact of reserves and other protected areas being isolated by surrounding private land, fences, and other barriers to wildlife movement.
Dr. Newmark also works with Earthwatch volunteers in his project Wildlife Trails of the American West: view link
Both of these Earthwatch expeditions study the movements of wildlife through an increasingly fragmented natural landscape, and hope to determine how best to accommodate these migrations.
